Foot Treadle

Well, we had about 20 inches of snow in the Central PA area. I ended up using the old sears snow blower to start clearing the driveway before using the snow blade on the PT to finish the job. The driveway is about 200 ft. long. That is just a little too much snow to move with the PT snow blade. Once I had a path made for the PT the 425 earns it's worth. The ability to raise the blade to push snow works great.
After finding the mounting block screws loose on the foot treadle, I thought I had fixed the problem. Unfortunately, the PT stopped dead in its tracks, but only once in 3 hours of plowing snow. I'll have to go back into the treadle assembly and double check the center pin screws in the foot treadle suggested by Tracdoc.
I still wonder in the back of my mind if there is a valve sticking in the system.

It could still be a valve, TG, but the treadle is pretty easy to check first off---unless it's outside and blowing snow

To date, we've had ~50" of snow so far this winter in our area of sw VA. In a "normal" winter, we get 8-12" for the entire season. I've plowed more snow this season w/ my PT than I really care to. We have a 900' driveway, most of it climbing uphill to the street. Plowing 25" deep snow w/ the 5' blade was fun at first, but has become more tiresome w/ each new snowfall. I must say, though, that the 6 motions of the blade on the PT were a huge help in going uphill. I was able to push, then curl and lift the blade up with a load of snow, and then tip it right or left to make the blade act as a chute to clear the uphill path. Once that's done, I can plow the rest going downhill.

Have fun in the snow and let us know what you find.

HELP MY POWER TRAC DIED!!! I have no forward or reverse movement. The front lift works and curls and side to side works. The steering works and the motor works fine but no forward or reverse. It don't even sound like anything is even trying to catch. It started to move slower and slower and then I heard a clank. That was it, I pushed it back to my garage and it pushed so easy. Usually there would be some resistance but I didn't have any. I need it badly and I rely heavily on this tractor. What do I do?? HELP. Could it be somewhere in the treadle valve. I don't know where to begin.

It don't even feel like the treadle is doing anything, it did lock in forward for a couple seconds so I went in reverse and it wanted to lock in there for a second or two also. So I went forward slightly to unlock it and that is when it clanked. Now the treadle doesn't do anything. I hope you guys can help me.

Thanks to everyone.

Brian

Don't waste your time with the e-mail. I have owned my PT425 for 9 years and have learned, you just call on the phone.

Thanks for the sympathy, I called Terry this morning and he believes it is the tram pump. I took it out this evening and I think it is to. It rattles and you can hear metal rattling around inside when you tilt it side to side. Like metal pieces and the shaft catches on something inside. It is toast but they want me to send it down to them to look at or rebuild. I only have 73 hours on the thing. I just hope it is cheap to fix.

I hate to hear that it is something major. Hope it don't cost too much to have fixed and up and running again. Keep us posted on what happens.

If it is under warranty, no cost. If out of warranty, those pumps cost up-wards of $800 to $1000. However, if that pump came apart, guts and all, there is all kinds of stuff/debris in the closed loop system. You will have to do some thorough cleaning, hoses, wheel motors, filter, etc. Maybe Terry can tell you the best way to accomplish that.
