You are right Vince,
I think of a 3rd World country as Nigeria,Afghanistan,Pakistan,etc...
Britain,Canada,Austrailia,France,Germany,Japan etc... are not 3rd World countries.

My dad retired about 5 years ago from atlanta assembly plant(ford). Most of you guys know you are guilty. Your guilty from buying some cheap foreign crap. I personaly would not buy any crap like Kubota , Toyota, Honda, Sony, Mahindra, Kioti (I think you get the picture) it may be made over here sometimes but the money goes back overseas. Last pair insulated coveralls I bought 99 bucks a pair (carhart) could have bought a pair that fit just as good from TSC for 59 or 69 but I did not (foreign made). My dad said it is just about to late for Americans to wake up (already to much damage done to the American economy), I look around and belive him. When the only jobs left in good ole USA are burger joints and service oriented jobs with nothing made over here we'll all belive him!

Is your dads standard of living more important than someone that lives in China and if so why?

Your views are simplistic and selfish Why should you expect to import huge volumes of oil from one country when it suits, but not let other countries export their product into your country.

Isn't the John Deere 790 built in Japan by Yanmar?

Cook123, my "crap" Kubota RTV is manufactured in your state of GA, the "crap" Toyota Tundra and Sequoia's are made right down the road from me. It doesn't take the much brain power to see that if people like me didn't buy such products like Kubota's or Toyota's that thousands of good 'ole Americans would be out of relatively high paying jobs in Indiana and Georgia alone. I suppose you would rather them be in the unemployment line? It's not worth pointing out additional lack of logic problems with your absurd statement.

Foreign manufacturing has both helped and hurt every country that has existed. I think we realized long ago we can not survive without it.

We import ONLY what we will consume, we export ONLY what others will consume. I know there are a few political trade offs also involved. …

But just look around, how many of us could survive for what length of time, if we didn’t ‘value shop’ our purchases? When manufacturing can not match or equal import, price/quality, they must change what they were doing.

If you try to restrict your buying to American only… you are only deceiving yourself. Most consumable and durable goods are imported. For many reasons… price being a very big reason.
You can go to your grocery and buy fresh produce today, regardless of the fact that it is not ‘in season’. We are enjoying a remarkable distribution system.

The fact that we can import, distribute, market, and consume a foreign made anything, CHEAPER than we can produce it ourselves, dose not make the import cheap crap. In many cases the import got its quality reputation by competing against cheap domestic crap.

Now if you are really seeing cheap imports it will not be long that someone will recognize the market opportunity and you will then be offered a higher quality item. IF it is domestically made, it will be because it can be made more practically/economically in this country… if not even the new ‘better’ item will be imported. Nothing is static… from before Columbus was looking for a more favorable spice route, we have been shoppers.

Daedong is right … EVERYONE has the right to make the best standard of living they can… We are consumers… to continue in the fashion and standard that we have become accustom, we will have to continue to import AND compete in a global market. This is not a new thing… KennyV.

I like them chinese tractors myself,,most of the stuff I've ever bought came from one of those discount chain stores,[for obvious reasons],,got a toyota pickup,a sony tv,,etc,,,do chew tobacco,,don't have a clue to where its grown,,,costs alot though,,must be from the u.s.,,,,,it all started with the unions wanting a man to get paid as much as a doctor for running an impact wrench,,,,the price is passed down to the consumers,,and every thing is relative,,,so,,the doctor wants more money,,than the lawyers want more money,,no problems, right? Every body is happy,,,well not for long,,,americans started making junk that cost a lot,[cars and trucks in the 70's],and here comes japan with their toyotas and datsuns, germany with their volkswagons,,,did us all a favor today,,ford and chevy had to start making theirs better to.. I heard that john deere is now using chinese motors in some of their machines? China does make some good motors that are cheap,,probably true,,thingy

A painfully political thread started by a moderator? Who moderates the moderators?

Keep up the good work, Daedong /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
