back before readers were out I used a palm pilot often.. figured out I didn't like reading long term block text on a lil screen...

If I ever got a tablet (PC) I might start up again.. just got to find something about like a Ipad, but on a pc platform.. something the same size as the netbook I use..

I don't read books, unfortunately I never read books in school, as much as they tried to force me. I went to summer school for reading one year, one on one with a nice old lady, must of worked cause I can read anything. Wish she taught spelling too
I just have a short attention span and can not get into reading a novel, I'll fall asleep after a few pages.

But the guy who owns this house must be into books
I did a job in his basement a couple months ago.
These pics are from his basement, the garage was full floor to ceiling as well, his wife wont let him keep any in the living quarters of the house though.

I had to use a jackhammer down there, I was worried about setting off a chain reaction and getting buried alive

Interesting. I have found that a lot of the recent books go for the same price as they would in paperback.

I was under the impression that they could be shared, or even checked out from a library. But, they would have a limited share time. Ie, the library could check the book out to you, but it would auto-delete after a certain time unless you checked it out again.

Guess I should go back and read all that info that came with the thing... :D

RobertN, You are not supposed to share or sell on an ebook. They are specifically priced way, way below what it would cost to buy the same book in print form.

Interesting !! Do you know if the library restricts usage of that section to residents of the area that pays taxes to support the library, or is it open to the public in general?

Most good novels do lose something when made into a movie...few exceptions (I never read the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, so I don't know if they were true to the books....

Lord of the Rings was pretty true to the books. One reason I like the Harry Potter movies is that the various directors over the years did a great job of following the books. The story line, over seven books and eight movies is an amazing work. There are little mysteries in the first book that are not solved until the final book/movie. The idea that Rowlings planned out the series the way she did, kept the story line as planned, dropped little clues along the way, and finally tied it all together in the end is a major accomplishment.

Lord of the Rings(LoR) was only three books. :D Tolkein was a professor and Rowling was unemployed, single mother. Rowling's work is very impressive. :) The HP stories have kids as the main subjects and thus kids like the books/movies but the story is about the ago old battle between good and evil. Several of the books/movies are very dark, depressing and scary.

It really bothers me with a movie production takes a book and then changes the story line for the movie. Starship Troopers is one of those movies. They just took the title and the idea of humans vs bugs to make the movie. The left out the central ideas in the book. The HP and LoR movies were very true to the books. The photography in LoR is simply stunning.

I am thinking about buying a Kindle or two.

One turn off to me is that so many of the eBooks are almost or as much as a real book. The prices I just checked where cheaper than hard back but still expensive.

I still WANT the real book but with the ease of the eReaders, at least for some books. I wish the publishers would package the analog and digital books like they are doing with BD, DVD and digital movies packages.

Magazines and newspapers do not seem to be dropping the price of the digital format as much as one would expect....

Amazon Prime is now allowing books to be checked out. You get the book for a month on loan.

The books and magazine editions CAN be deleted by the publisher and/or Amazon.

I am pretty sure our local library has ebook loans.

I just cant pull the trigger on an ereader. I love my books, especially when the power is out. They require no batterys. Holding a book is part of the experience. I would think it almost an injustice to put my collection of foxfire books on a computer.

And VERY ironic.

That is, one series I do reread now and then... I have a couple of the Foxfire books. Always want to try building a banjo like they do in one of those books...
