Great post! I think you may have saved me a lot of work and frustration. I think NH needs to address their electrical problems, other than that they are great little tractors.

Cbox, I decided to replace the switch because about 40 hours after I bought my new tractor, my ignition switch broke. New holland replaced it, and I didnt think anything of it. However, it stuck in my mind that it was odd for a switch to fail like that at 40 hours. The switch actually fell apart internally and wouldnt turn anymore. So when I started having this electrical problem, my dad (who is an electrician by trade) and I started troubleshooting, and one of the first things we checked was the ignition switch because of my experience with the first one. Sure enough, the new aftermarket ignition switch fixed "50%" of the problem.

I barely got my TC-29 to start last time out so I thought now was time to replace the switch. Napa Part KS6600. Had to clip the nice connector so...Purple wire = ST, Red = BAT, Red = ACC (either i got lucky or it doesnt matter which red goes here), Orange = IGN. Sort of a funky fit but I'll just have to be careful not to turn the switch to hard, otherwise it'll spin.

So you use the ACC position for the glow plugs? It's not spring loaded, so it seems like that might be a danger if you (or someone less used to the machine) left the switch in ACC and walked away? Does anyone know of a good replacement switch with the spring-loaded glow plug position? My glow plugs work intermittently, but I haven't diagnosed the cause yet. 1993 2120.

Jimmy, on the TC29D, you actually just turn the key to acc and leave it to heat the plugs. They are on a timer and do not use a spring loaded portion of the switch to activate them. When you turn the key to acc, you can walk away. In about 4 or 5 seconds, you can hear a little "click" which is a relay that turns the plugs back off. The only thing that the spring loaded part of the ignition switch is used for is to start the tractor. I know some tractors may be different but on the TC29, that is how it works.

Brad,
Thank you for the post! Like you, I've been struggling with this issue for a long time.

I do beleive that the older TC-29 units do not have a timer for the glow plugs. Those units would be better off with a spring loaded ACC. position.
