Ford 1700 injector pump timing

Sounds like the injector timing is still off. I would not use glow plugs when running. Is compression leaking into radiator still?

The radiator will leak water out of the overflow before it gets to operating temperature and contunues to leak until it is shut off. I have plenty of head room and changed the cap. I did not see any water on the oil or vise versa. It builds pressure faster than it should.

From what I read you did not put the head on. It might be like the timing.... way off. Re-torque the head, fill the radiator all the way to the top, leave cap off, crank and run a few minutes to circulate and expel air, then look for bubbles. Bubbles are compression leaking in. If you have bubbles pull the head. That means a new head gasket @ about $100.

I found out the head gasket is leaking into the radiator so I took the head off. The head and block looked ok, so I ordered a new head gasket. I believe the parts supplier thinks the head gaskets are gold plated for the price they ask for them :shocked: I do not know if the gasket is my main problem, I did not see any major leaks on the head gasket. I will let you know the outcome. Thanks.

I got the tractor running good yesterday . It turned out to be a bad head gasket and the timing was still off. I am going to go ahead and do some maintenance on it and change all the fluids etc. I will probable keep this tractor and sell my 8n, it has a lot more power than the 8n. Thanks for all the help.

Wow, This was like reading a good Novel. I couldn't put it down till I reached the end. It is much like my recent experience with my 1310 except I didn't have injector pump issues.

Hi 53, did you ever get the information on the markings for fuel pump timing for your 1700?

Russel does the injector pump have timing marks to set with crank gear on the 1700?, the pump was removed by previous owner and never made any marks to where the gear is suppose to align with.

I posted photos before on the injector timing. Other than the actual timing of the gears with witness marks the injector gear has slotted holes for adjustment and the injector mount holes are slotted. There should be witness marks.
