JC, My engine block heater came with the tractor when new so I assume it was factory installed and would be available from the NH Dealer as a parts order. Check to see if yours has the soft plug installed with the plug in reciever, if so all you would need is the cord. See attachments:
I have tested my glow plug problem and found the glow indicator is OK. Took the wires off and tested it for continuity and it was not broken. Reattached the wires and turned the switch and it worked. Problem may have been either a bad ground or could still be an ignition switch problem. I will watch it to see if it is still intermittant on/off. Ray

Ray,

Thanks for the pic. Mine does not have it and as you said it must be a factory option or may be after market add on. I don't reckon I need it too bad. you probably cleaned the contact enough for it to go. All the rusty and other wise poor connection add a cumulative current loss and by the time it gets to glow plug may not be enough. the god part about it is simple enough to get around and do it with a simple fix.

JC,

No one is advocating blithely grinding away on the starter just to activate the glowplugs. Let's be clear on that. .

Rick ! you da man!!

I did check the ignition and glow plug circuit and you were right on the money.

With camera in my right hand, test light on glow plug shunt strip, clutch pedal out , and the key turned with my left hand to start position the glow plug was powered by ignition system same as the key turned to heat position. Of course, normally open safety switch kept the starter from operating. That was pretty neat to know.:) I wished the electrical diagram showed it as well.

additionally, with key in heat position, termainal 19 was energized providing current to glow indicator coil and glow plugs.

When I preheated using the start position current was bypassed terminal 19 and terminal 17 was energized. So, if the glow plug indicator is not working you can by pass it and continue to preheat making sure you do not press the clutch pedal during the pre-heating and of course Rick said all of that using 1/4 of the words I used.

There is no fuse for the glowplugs. The wire conects to the starter on the stud with the pos. battery cable and goes to the ign. switch. The schematic in the manual could be a whole lot better.
