Ford 1710 Injector Pump oil Problems

So the mystery continues.....LOL

yes, there is a Tractor Supply store in town (20 miles away). I will get the fluid. Wonder if they will have a filter too. When I change that, I need to make a gasket for where the tranny filter attaches. It is leaking there.

Next question. As for the front and rear axles. I did read somewhere something about them. If I remember correctly, the rear axles is part of the tranny, so no need to do anything differently there. The front I need to drain and add oil. Is this gear oil or hydraulic too?

I have just spent the last two hours in the woods clearing. Boy what a difference it makes. Life is good now.

I don't have front wheel assist so Had no need for final reduction gear case oil change (front axle). Based on my owner's manual you do not use hyd fluid there. You should use actual gear oil. They say you have to use extreme pressure gear lubricant with anti-foam additive, SAE 80 under 80 deg F and SAE 90-140 over 86 deg F. I'm glad you've started having fun. Life is good indeed

For the 1710 it refers to figure 257. That is not where mine is located. Mine is located as shown in figure 256, which is supposed to be for the 1510 model.

What do you think about that?

I like it better like Fig 256 as the filter is much more out of the way and protected, less chance of snagging it on a rock or what have you. They both drain about the same as you spin it out (I.e. can get a bucket under and collect oil the oil rather than all over the rest of the tractor). The NH website shows it both ways , it might have been some upgrade from one year to another. The NH web site does not show inlet screen for the 1710 in the rear differential which make it a bit easier, just takes a spin in cartridge filter, TSC would not have it, consider buying one extra for spare. can do a post-mortem autopsy on the old filter to assess general condition of hyd system.

Not by much. Those filter are constructed differently than you normal engine spin on filter. You can not buy them in Wally World and they are much beefier. Almost always they are in the suction side, filter wall construction should be able to withstand lots of suction pressure (if there is a term like that) and discharge pressure if they are on the discharge side of the pump. On some sensitive commercial hyd pump setup the pump is pre and post filtered.

I don't know how much it costs through the NH site. I did go to a NH site, but I am not finding the same information you keep making reference too. Either I'm not at the correct site or I'm just missing it.

You know that hydraulic filter looks like it is a canister that you put a filter into and then tighten with a wrench on the end. I'm used to these cause that is what the older JDs used. On my tractor, it is a screw on filter similar to the oil filter. It does not fit into a canister. I need to look at the part number on it and see what it is.
