I tried asking this in the New Holland section but no results so I'll try here. When I first got this tractor I changed the small diameter pipe (guessing that's return) and the hydraulic fluid. The bigger diameter pipe (pressure side?) Filter didn't look too dirty but it did look like someone had tried to take a wrench to it and get it off. It had been working great, up quick and smooth. Now it hardly ever wants to lift. It will start to lift but if I raise rpms it stops. Sometimes if I lower the rpms it still start raising again. I was just using it and it wouldn't raise so I shut the engine off checked my fluid level, started back up and it lifted quick. Then I went to raise it again with rpms up and nothing. Please help.

your feed or intake to the pump is large line and the small is pressure. It sounds as if your intake screen is blocked or you are sucking air.

Yea as mangled as it looked I went ahead and ordered an intake line from tractor Joe.

Well I changed the intake filter, it works better but if I run it wide open then it wants to stop lifting. I did notice a leak coming from the lift cover where there is a metal pin. When I took the lift cover off there's about 7/16 pin that's hollow with o rings on both ends. Not sure what that is but it looks important. I took it out of its slot and it was bent a little. Also this time I took the lift cover off I didn't need to use the car jack under arms trick. I just lifted it with my arms. I'm guessing that means there wasn't any pressure behind it if that's how it works, I dunno.

I have a service manual on order, I'm guessing it will show the name of the part that's bent? Would y'all also recommend a top cover repair kit?

Anyone have any suggestions? I just tried to use it with same problems. Won't lift with full rpms. Sometimes it will lift a load, sometimes it will stop once it tries to lift a load. Can the top cover suck air or is there any pressure behind it? What common things suck air in a hydraulic system? I checked my lines and there are no cracks. Nothing leaking at the pump.

Just realized something that might be the culprit I dunno. I had a leak coming from the pressure line to the pump a few weeks ago. When I fixed it I unscrewed the pump mounting bolts to get a better grip on it. After I fixed I turned the engine on and oil shot out from the mounting holes. I'm wondering if I damaged the gasket in the process. It's not leaking from there but I dunno just a thought. Kinda feel like I'm talking to myself in here. Ha-ha.

It still sounds as if the pump isn't getting oil or sucking air from somewhere. Did you find out if there is a screen in the sump that you can clean? I don't know much about the fords so that I can give you ideals where to look for the screen.

Yes the intake filter is a screen mesh type but I replaced it with a new one. I really thought that was the problem but it's not

I also took the test port plug off to make sure there was oil there and when the oil came out, it was milky again after a new oil change

Most of the time the kind of screen I'm taking about goes into the sump, but can be removed from outside of sump. Check your manual real close.

Just so I'm clear the sump is the hyd resevoir right? Because I have 2 filters. One is the intake and goes to pump the other is the pressure that comes back into the hydr resevoir. This sump is something different?

I forgot to mention, after doing some thinking. I don't know the name of it but it is our was connected to my top link. I broke the part where it hooks to the top link. Is that the unloader valve?

Doing a little research I think I might have broken the top link yoke when I backed up into a tree stump. Not real sure if that would be causing all this but it broke pieces off of it. Where can you get parts for that at?

this post is perplexing.. if you are going to talk in pronouns and dohickies and thingy's.. we will need pictures.

your filters are under the top cover. no side slide out tubes like leejohn is talking about on some other tractors.

just for the heck of it.. you don't have a screw on can style filter at the pump or under the running board do you?

now post pics of the dohickies that you think are broken before we get too far down one path that might not be correct.

as far as air leaks? suction side air leaks cause the most problems..

Yea I'm sorry about all that. My manual should've been here by now. So far I've ordered a pump rebuild kit, top cover repair kit, cross shaft seals and felt seals. Part # C5NNNB53B is bent up pretty bad and leaking. Part # C5NNN949A is blown but can't find parts for either of those. I also ordered a new hydraulic elbow going into sump as it was leaking too. Looking closer at the flow control linkage, the c clip and washer were missing where it attaches to the valve and the valve was stuck in the closed position. I'll upload that picture real quick too.

That is what backed up into a stump, had a box blade attached to it.
