i still have yet to take it back to him, but i did change the air filter oil and cleaned it while it was still cold a few days ago. it still smoked badly.
today we go to get it since its a little warmer and drive it to my brothers house to put it onto the trailer and it was still smoking this morning. mind you when i had experienced all this smoking initially at the beginning of this post, which actually appears to be more of a greyish white smoke then blue, it had been idling alot parked at lower rpms. Naturally at this time it would not have been pulling the weight of a tractor. one would think being parked under no load the engine would require less fuel or maybe burn less fuel right? Either way, its still smoking this morning. I get it going and driving down the road, max rpms, get some torque on the motor from applying the transmission and when i got to my brothers house not even a half a mile away, its not smoking AT ALL. i leave it parked, idleing at max for a bit. no smoke. move it around a bit drop it to low rpm's for a bit, here starts the smoking. i blow it to max rpm's now instantly and a gush of blackish white smoke rolls out and its smoking white again. not as bad as letting it idle for a while. it seems when and if i keep a load under it their is no smoke. if i let it idle parked, it starts to get to smoking more and more and more. now i know black smoke is common with diesels if the pump is up, but i do know they shouldnt be smoking like this one is when its not under a load. i hope this makes sense, man what i bad experience i have had with my first year in owning tractors. this will be my third tractor this year, i hope its not always like this because its really agrivating. when i first got it and cut that day it didnt smoke at all, probably because i was pulling a load and not idling parked. it worked great that first day, and its obvious that it would work great again, id just like to correct this unnecessary smoking issue.
another side note, is it really bad if it IS in fact dumping too much diesel in? what would be some pros to that and what would be some cons? is this uncommon with diesel tractors or is it common? it seems weve targetted what the issue is now its just figuring out how to fix it and what the part the problem lies in. I have not tried changing the fuel filters either, but would that really matter in the description i have thus far?
