don't coun't on always being able to drain the water off the bottom of a sump. due to detergent action, water and oil can have some stabil emulsion properties.. not to mention the time it needs to seperate out is likely way longer than the time inbetween running the machine which just churns it up continously.

yep cann't argue with that but if they wasn't going to use it for a couple of days that might work is all i ment by that

Yeah.. if it's been setting for a bit, it sure wouldn't hurt to pull a drain plug and see if some water trickles out.. after that if milkshake comes out you know what your next chore will be..

yep but i dont know if it a good idea but if it comes out milky i always like to put about 2 gallons of diesel in it after i drained all of the oil and water out that i could and shake it around to try and clean it that way rather than waste hyd oil

If it's real bad.. I wouldn't consider it a waste.. just chalk it up to saving your hyd system.

When I find a 'wet' sump, My usual concoction I've been using a few years is a couple gallons diesel with a quart of cheap ATF fluid, and a pint of 91% rubbing alcohol.

has enough lube between the remnants of the old draind oil and the atf so that pumps won't self destruct.. the alcohol will disolve any water since it is a polar solvent and water is polar.. and the diesel is a general good solvent... a let that flush for a minute or so then drain.. works out real decent.

i have never tried that i always used pure diesel but didn't try to start it but it would be a could idea to do what u just said for now on to make sure i get all of the trash out but i like diesel really because it will help clean the filter

I had a unit that had been in a flod.. had silt in compartments.. took me a day of cleaning to get it all out.
