Ford 600 Ignition Problem

Just curious if anyone can help me sort out a recent ignition problem. I have a Ford 600 that stalled out on me. It seemed as though the tractor ran out of gas; however, it turned out that was not the problem. I removed the distributor cap and found that there is no spark at the points. I replaced the condenser, points and coil this morning - but still no spark. Anyone have a suggestion?

I replaced the coil, pionts, condenser and rotor this a.m. I just finished up trying to hot wire the coil straight from the battery to rule out any wiring issues....no luck....no spark...

Ok.. so you have a hot wire from the battery right to the primary of the coil.. the outgoing primary of the coil to the feedthru ont he distrib. you have your points gapped at .025"... and no spark?

tak ethe coil out of circuit and put a test lamp inline.. ie.. bat to test lamp to distrib.. crank engine over... test lamp should blink.

if the lamp is on continous.. then there is a short in the distrib.. likly place is the feedthru insulator..

if the lamp never comes on, then points are not closing. ( some have a glaze ont he contacts from the factory.. pull a piece of coarse paper thru them.. like grocery sack.. etc.. that's the best way to clean points.

side of the dizzy has a post for the wire from the coil to hook.. on the inside, there is a conductor going to the points. since the dizzy shell is ground, and this wire is carrying power to the points, it is encased in an insulating grommet.. which frequently crumbles after 50 years, then allows the outgoing coil primary to short to ground as if the points were ALWAYS closed.
