extra oil means less heat. :)
I kept reminding myself of that very thing once I realized my mistake! I don't know how much difference it makes, but that's a pretty big jump in capacity (almost double). Thx for suggesting the add-on tank in the 1st place. Now, it's the only tank!

it's the best way to do it.. really. and yeah.. the larger tank has more surface area to radiate heat, plus more oil volume.. all win-win..

Being a bit naive & overly-optimistic, I underestimated the time it would take to finish up the smaller items & get the boom back into place. (I have decided to make sure everything else necessary to the BH functioning properly are all complete & double-checked before gathering buddies to help install the boom, so I still may be another few...well, no need to set a time-frame)!

Along with life's constant diversions & distractions - the heat has been pretty intense here in North Texas, so forgive my slow progress - I promise I am putting in all the time I can. I have made a couple more revisions in the plumbing (using old water-hose in every configuration), but I feel confident these few changes will be the last. I have both return lines completed, site gauge installed, return filter, & a few other gadgets on the reservoir and hydraulic system.

I am proud to say that the original BH return fit perfectly in place even with all the modifications to the main frame. I have been experimenting with brackets to support the steel return pipes and hose clamps for the rubber lines. (the clamps I've found online are great, but they just won't work for several places I need them.

Finally, I spent time figuring out how to build solid brackets for my front fenders - it was pretty easy (I did look at as many pics as I could find, including NH site, but the clincher was figuring out a practical way to attach to the bottom of the spindles). If there is already a tried and true method, please let me know, because it took...a while for the light bulb to go on! Anyway, here's some progress, I have the whole weekend (most time in weeks), so maybe things will really start moving! Thanks!July 19, 2013 007.jpgJuly 18th, 2013 002.jpgJuly 18th, 2013 004.jpgJuly 16, 2013 tractor 009.JPG

Thanks SG! I got a lot done today, but haven't taken many pictures yet. (maybe in AM). I've got a few of work on the swing cylinders & checking to make sure everything back there lined up with new tank & all. (Thankfully, it did)! So, here's a few & I'll try to post some tomorrow night.

Please overlook the multicolored...everything - all part of experimenting with the paint.

I have one swing cylinder 1/2" longer (replacement?), so i had to push the trunion back 1/2" on starboard side & added a notched 1/4' piece of angle iron to help hold them steady. (I'm going to add another to bottom trunions.angle iron notched bracing1.jpgangle iron notched bracing2.jpgbottom supports with added steel.jpgcylinders with notched angle iron.jpglower support with added steel.jpg

The best laid plans of mice and men...are often delayed! My Fall and winter were completely consumed with other projects that were "have to's!" I've been back on the tractor for about 3 weeks now & I wanted to show some progress. I'll try to catch up in the next few days.august 19, 2013 002.jpgAugust 20th, 2013 tractor backhoe 018.jpgAugust 20th, 2013 tractor backhoe 024.jpgAugust 20th, 2013 tractor backhoe 014.jpgAugust 21st, 2013 011.jpgAugust 21st, 2013 013.jpgAugust 22, 2013 012.jpgAugust 22, 2013 013.jpgAugust 22, 2013 022.jpgAugust 22, 2013 008.jpgAugust 24th,2013 054.jpgAugust 24th, 2013 006.jpgAugust 24th, 2013 007.jpgIMG_1220.jpgIMG_1258.JPG
