Ford eco boost

My area in Texas has seen what you say. The Ford dealer in the small town will probably close it doors forever soon.
Sounds to me like Ford has decided to send every truck built on a hangover-Monday to your area of Texas.

Just the opposite here in northern Nevada/southeast Oregon. There is a Ford dealer in every little town. If you want a GM or a Ram you have 3 options. Reno. 500 miles to the south in Las Vegas, or 300 miles to the east in Elko Nevada.

And you'd better get used to the idea of a small turbocharged engine in a pickup truck. Our fearless leaders in Washington are forcing all the manufacturers to them. Can't buy a V8 Ram half ton or Toyota Tundra anymore. GM is working on their version also.

The only aspect of the Eco-Boost engine that I've read about is, you need to change the motor oil every 5K miles and not use the built in oil minder and change at 10K. The extended change intervals (from what I read on various forums) is death on them.

In reality, I change the motor oil in our vehicles at 5K anyway. Oil is cheap compared to engine repairs.

I don't know that it's turbo 4s in general, or just certain turbo 4s that lack longevity

I know people that own one and my general feeling is they are a solid engine no more likely to be a problem than other engines.

Exactly! All the newer engines are a lot more complicated than the old pushrod engines we were used to. You can read all kinds of horror stories about the problems caused by the cylinder deactivation systems in GM and Ram engines. Or the dual battery system in newer Jeep Wranglers.

All these crappy unreliable unnecessary features added to good engines to meet some government "standard".

I still prefer and always will, a V8 versus a tiny motor in a truck or a large SUV. My wife's Burb has a V8 and while the mileage isn't great, at least it has plenty of engine to haul it's weight around.

My Ford Focus RS has a 4 banger in it, but it's light to begin with and the hairdryer on it makes 320 ponies. Sleeper supercar.....

My ongoing philosophy will always be, there is no replacement for displacement in any vehicle that weighs a substantial amount. Consequently, an Eco Boost 4 banger in a full sized truck will always be a non starter for me.

One thing I’ve learned on Internet forums is people don’t come on a forum and say my truck, tractor, car is great. They come on a forum because something is wrong. You can Google just about anything, say problems with Bic Pens and you’ll get a bunch of hits on all the things wrong with them.

My neighbor's had a Ford Escape with an ecoboost in it. After two motors, and under 100k miles, they went with imports for them both. One a Subaru and one a Toyota.

couple years ago I bought a 2012 f 150 had low miles , have 142.000 on it now just got out of the shop $4000 worht of repairs , timing chains and all the bs that goes with it anyone else had good bad experience with one ?
I have a 2013 F150 ecoboost. I had the first timing chain stretched and needed to be replaced at 60,000 kms. Thankfully it was under warranty. Now the truck has 174,000 kms and now the stupid timing chain is stretched yet again and needs to be replaced. This time not under warranty unfortunately, which is going to be a huge repair bill. I am so angry about this. Clearly this is a poor design with so many other ones having failed and now it has failed again. I was going to buy the 6.2L at the time and salesman talked me into the ecoboost. I am so pissed off I listened to him. I do not drive this truck hard at all and barely tow anything at all. It is absolutely ridiculous the timing chain is stretched yet again, which means once I replace it then it just a matter of time before it gets stretched again. Piece of junk ecoboost.

They dont stretch, they wear and its from poor quality oil/ or long oil change intervals.
