2007 John Deere 3203, 2001 john deere l118 garden tractor. 30+ peices of John Deere construction equipment
I am thinking about going from a Chevrolet 2500hd down to a Ford f-150 as my dd. Look for for better gas mileage and just a more comfortable ride.

Main uses will be
Drive 60 miles round trip everyday.
Tow no more than 7000lbs. I have a 7.3 psd for anything more!

The necessities
Crew cab
4wd
Tow package. As high as I can get.

I am looking at the 2009 and up models but don't know much about the new motors and such.

What should I look for? Pros? Cons? Any help will be great!

A little older than you are considering and I only have about 65K on my 2006 F150 Lariat 4WD SuperCab (reverse opening rear doors) with nice leather bucket seats. V-8 Triton 5.4L and a tow package. I have absolutely zero problems with it. I average about 15mpg being half city/hwy driving. It tows very nice. I was pulling a 4500lb boat without a problem and went over the Cascade mountain passes with it. Very comfortable. Definitely get the big engine, I hear the smaller ones are doggish in the F150. Good Luck. Love mine.

For what you're wanting to do I would look for trucks with the 5.0 v8.

I have had a 07 and now a 2012. Not a single issue. My 07 had a 5.4 as did my 97, 99, and 01 before it. Never a single issue.

My 2012 has the ecoboost. No issues there either but the power over the 5.4 is amazing.

You should get at least an 2011 so you can get a ecoboost or 5.0 but then if you are looking at trucks that new you probably could get a new one for about the same price. If you are looking at 5.0 truck 3.73 gears bump the towing capacity up a good bit.

We just bought a 2014 F-150 crew cab 4wd w/ ecoboost back in July and just turned 8K miles on it. I'm pretty happy with it so far, but I'm not getting the mileage they claim. My wife gets close to 19.9 at 70mph on highway. I get closer to 18 with my driving, but I use cruise control as often as I can. That being said, the power and torque is incredible.

If you already have a full-size PU, why not look at the smaller Tacoma's or such? I'd put my ear to the ground and see if Toyota will be putting a diesel in play soon. I've driven the Toyota Hilux overseas and they get great mileage and power. I can't believe they haven't offered the same configuration here.

Just got a new '13 F150 4WD ( 6 weeks ago ) with rear locker, tow pkg, $28k love it. Wifes Volvo cost more than my tractor plus my new truck. And my F150 is quieter inside, by far, and I'm not referring to the kubota.

I got the ext cab & 6.5 foot bed. Have the 5.0 V8, because it's a proven engine. Wish I had the power of the ecoboost, because sometimes the V8 seems sluggish in the low-mid RPMs. The twin turbos scared me I was afraid of a $7,000 repair bill someday. I get 14-16 mpg.

Mine doesn't have the center storage cubby, just a lame cushion/backrest. I want the storage cubby but they are $600, isn't that crazy? $350 at the wrecking yard, I think I have to wait for fellas to wreck more trucks.

Bought the OEM trailer brake controller online and installed it, I like it. Planning to make an inner skeleton structure so I can load heavy stuff ontop of my "ARE" topper.

Dealers here have scads of '13s instock, seems like there should be good deals!

Had a 2013 F150 STX Supercab 6.5 bed with 5.0 and trailer tow package. Pulled a 7x14 enclosed trailer with 2 motorcycles in from upstate NY to Daytona last April. It was in 4th-5th gear most of the time and got 8.5 mpg.
Like Sodo, I had that flip up center seat with no storage space. I also bought a factory trailer controller elsewhere and had the dealer install it and reflash the computer for it. My mileage locally was in the 13-14s, occasionally around 15.
As soon as I got home I traded for a 2014 F250 Supercab 6.5 bed with 6.2 gasser. Mileage not all that different in local driving. Towing and performance is. Both trucks 4x4.
As you can see in my signature, it's all Ford for me. But I just was not impressed with the last in a long, long line (a dozen or so since 1993) of F150s.

We have 3 F150 4x4 with the 5.0 at work. I like them. A big step up in the power department compared to what we had before. I think our previous trucks had the smaller v8, 4.6 liter? Fuel mileage isn't too bad on the highway but not so good around town. Around town we will often see as low as 11 mpg but I think out on the highway it will get close to 20 mpg. I also think the seats are a lot more comfortable then the older Fords we had.

I get 18-19 driving around town with a 5.0 F-150.

We don't even get close to that but ours are used as work trucks. Some of them probably carry 1000 lbs around all the time in tools and gear.

I don't think 1000lbs really hurts mileage. I have hauled stuff in the bed and have not noticed the mileage drop. I have had the bed full of bags of mulch and it did not hurt the mileage. The thing that hurts mileage the most is idleing.

My 2014 Dodge is getting about 19 mpg, but I have very little highway on that. Its all up and down hills. It does have the active shutter grills and 8 speed transmission.

My last five pickups have been 4 F150s and 1 F350. I also keep them for about 80-100k. Among all five only one thing other than brakes, tires and minor factory recalls. That was a passenger side power window motor that stuck down on a snowy day with my wife in the passenger seat and 150 miles from home!

Thanks for the help. I am liking what I see.

Diamondpilot- how do you like your ecoboost? Does it tow as we'll if not better than your 5.4?

If you drive an Ecoboost you'll likely buy one. When I was shopping trucks I only looked at 5.0 trucks and test drove those. The salesman kept trying to push me into an ecoboost but I wasn't interested, rather have the v8. Just a personal preference. Usually if someone trades in an ecoboost it's usually because they bought an F250 to replace it. Nice engine, just not for me.

I have about 2400$ total on my 10yr old f150. Bout new. Has the 4.6 litre v8. Handles a 16ft tandom axle trailer with a total weight of about 5500lbs with ease. Hills are a little sluggish. All in all i've been very happy with it

Smokes my 5.4, my GM 454, my Ram 5.7 Hemi, and is comparable to my 99 7.3 Ford Power Stroke. It has power that the diesel trucks of the 90's if not more.

100% correct. I would not have bought 10 plus Ford vehicles if I and my family did have great service from them.
