I would argue that the one from Ford is junk too.

Dragon eggs sorry about your truck. I hope the repair goes well.

Is there anything you could have done differently to prevent this?
That is a good question... I thought my oil change was often enough at one year thinking 7500mi per change was adequate (Ford says 5000K). Thinking I had a slow rotting lemon based on stuff I have read about the VVT (variable valve timing). Based on my online research and a few opinions at three different shops, people seem to think the corrections/improvements have been made on that engine. Just hoping my reman is immune to the trouble. Funny thing... well not so funny is that the engine went 'teets up' quick. Really no indication of problem before the real rough running and oil pressure cutting out.

Funny thing is the oil pressure is fine or intermittently zero. :confused3:

Not absolutely sure about this?? , But thought that i read some Ford products send the oil pressure signal and then if it fits between some (parameters 5 +PSI? !) the ( switch)outputs a pre set output to the dash gauge,

If this is correct- it is plausible to say have an engine running 9 psi when warmed up at hi way speeds and have the gauge displaying a dead center reading.

If Ford is doing it this way -I am not a fan of it....

They are all doing it like this. Watch when you start a newer vehicle. The gauge oil pressure gauge instantly jumps up. On a older vehicle it takes a half second.

Sorry to hear how that turned out DE; definitely a pain in the wallet.

Esp. on modern engines, exceeding the recommended OCI should only be done with oil analysis. On light vehicles, unless you get free oil testing, you might as well just change at or below the recommended interval.

Some guys have been short-changing oil on Ecoboosts for different reasons. I'd probably change 5.4 oil @ 85% of factory interval.

Re. oil pressure coming up (dash gauge smoke+mirrors) - anybody running a Scanguage II (I think III is out now) ? You may be able to get unfiltered oil pressure data off the OBD II bus.

Rgds, D.

Well I have mine listed at $21.5k and I can tell that I'm not gonna get that. 85k miles with new tires.

DP did pops truck have some gold rims to bring that kind of dough?

My father's 2012 Eco Boost Super Crew was 44K sticker. It was bought for about 35k and just sold with 80,000 miles for 25.5K.

Many times people get tunnel vision on new vs used. After rebates and finance rates new can be bought for nearly the same money as a 3 year old one with 36,000 miles.

Friend of mine bought new f150, has been in shop multiple times already. Lemon law hasn't kicked in yet, but probably will.

It often takes Money to buy used and nothing to buy new.

Remember we had folks come in and it was easier to put them in brand new with factory financing than it was used...

I've never financed a vehicle new or used so no personal experience.

Same with tractors. If you're searching Craigslist and other places to buy a used one, you have a stack of cash someplace. You can go buy new with zero cash down at nearly any dealer.

For those of you following the demise of my 5.4L V3 Triton engine... I am getting my 'new' truck back today. Turned out that the timing chain 'exploded' and clogged the oil pick up tube with plastic and metal. Finally got the call that engine replacement finished and been road tested. Also the power steering pump needed to be replaced... wonder what caused that to be failing. Anyway... should be driving it to Home Depot to pick up 'stuff' this evening. I have been suffering withdrawal symptoms without a truck. Never gone this long with out.
