Thanks for the update DE. I hope you get several more years of trouble free service from it.

They probably messed up your power steering pump when they pulled the pulley to remove it from your engine.

Happy you're fixed up. Is it just me or does Ford seem to have a bit more than it's fair share of timing chain/belt issues?

I dang well better! That is what I was wondering too. The steering seemed perfect when it went into the shop. Gonna be hard to blame that on a grease monkey but I should ask to see it.

It's not you... there is a history of cam phasor and timing chain issues with this particular engine. They did put in a higher volume upgraded oil pump that was deemed part of the issue. Supposedly the rebuilt engine I got has several upgrades from the original OEM design. Will be picking it up in an hour! :cool2: :moneybag::moneybag::moneybag:

They may or have sent the pump back for a core or claim they did. If they let you see the old pump, look inside the end of the shaft where the pulley goes on and see if the threads look buggered up. They could have also cross threaded where the pressure line screws into the pump.

I been fortunate i guess with my 2006 ford F150 with the V-8 triton motor. With 128,000 miles on the OD I change the oil/filter 3500-4000 miles.Replaced both driver/passenger manifolds to the tune of $1200 bucks plus the rear pinion gears at $1800.

One of my framing helpers has a early 2000's F-250 with a Triton 5.4L. It has spit 2 spark plugs in the last month. I was able to show him the basics on what to do to fix them. He now carries spare parts in his truck.

She's back home! Man I missed my truck. I have to say the gal that I dealt with was great! Knowledgable, straight talk, and kept me informed, and went through the whole repair and their findings. I have a new 'go to' shop.

Got a new Motorcraft power steering pump as well as new engine. They did screw up the output shaft seal but parts/labor were no charge. The bearings were worn and shaft wobbly.

New long block with 5/50K warranty. Interesting that the oil now must be 'High Zinc' content 15w40 for life or voids warranty. OEM called for 5w20. Gonna have to post a reminder on the oil cap and manual. They recommended Delo 400 or Rotella T. I notice now that there is a T3, T4, T5, T6 at least, so I might need some clarification on which one... maybe doesn't matter. Apparently motor has redesigned cam phasers/springs to much tighter specs and it doesn't like the lighter oil unless operation is in extreme cold climate. All new hoses, belts, spark plugs, water pump, thermostat, upgraded oil pump, etc. They seemed to have done a great job and had three different mechanics check and test drive it. They will do an oil change and thorough diagnostic check at 500mi, complimentary... yippee. Hoping this is my last truck unless I start playing the lottery and win. :D Since I only have 79K and it's a 2006 it should last me. And yes I just knocked on wood. Maybe some of you remember reading my original post (#27) in this thread where I mentioned my trouble free F150 and stupidly exclaimed that I didn't knock on wood. :banghead: Won't be bragging any more.

If it were me I would use Delo. I had great success with it in both our 6.0L Powerstroke Fords.

At the end of the if you don't mind sharing what was the final bill for a new motor?

My daughters 2007 5.4 started throwing cam issues. At 200k we sold it a few days ago. Quotes were 3k for cam work or 7k for new engine. I got 12 bucks out of the deal, and 10 dollars of that went to POA.

Those engine replacement quotes seem so reasonable.
I'm running 2 6.4L Fords and they're wiping out my bank account. I just did a HP fuel pump. Too busy working to do that one, so bill was $3,000.
Now I have a cracked intercooler. Ford was replacing them. They won't replace it now. You should see the smoke. I'm talking clouds of white smoke, cars behind me pulling over. Lol
$650 for new intercooler part and another day shot to install it.
The other 6.4L has a cold Lopey idle. Almost stalls on the low side of the lope. I just replaced the entire DPF system on that one at 140k miles. Found a used one for $1,000 in decent shape. Installed myself, but the old sensor was stuck in the old DPF and it broke while removing it. Another couple hundred in parts and skinned knuckles.
Buddy of mine is a certified ford diesel and truck mechanic. I'm glad I have a "friend in the busines" or I'd be broke.
I love the truck chassis for the most part. Motors are ruined by the DPFs.
New "reman" 6.4L Diesel engine is $16,400. No installation included.
