Well, from what I've also been told, "average" maintenance for a lot of diesel owners is changing the oil every 25k or so. If you change the oil and filter at more reasonable intervals, use decent quality oil, and don't "see what she'll do" everytime you drive it, I would just have to bet that you will outlast the "average" by a considerable amount.
My neighbor who I mentioned earlier in this thread (the guy who was killing trannys every 6 mos. until he finally stopped his transmission woes with an ATS tranny) absolutely floggs his 7.3 everytime he is behind the wheel, and is always towing well over the rated limit. He does change his oil and filter every 4k. Anyway, he is approaching 250k with no engine troubles other than some injector issues of some sort. Some will say that he is wasting oil. Seeing how hard he is on things and his 7.3 is still humming, I would have to argue that you can waste money on worse things! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I don't think you should have any issues at all for quite a long while.
