Very glad to see that the tractor fell into good hands.

Those weights are worth some money. Easily 50 cents a pound.

My 3910 had several issues when I bought it too. But that's part of the adventure!!!

I split it in two to fix an oil leak that I suspected was the engine rear main seal. discovered the clutch was junk so replaced that along with the rear main seal. Put it back together and it still leaked oil. Discovered it was the front transmission seal that was bad. So got to tear it apart twice. Gotta love it!!!!

I sold a pair of those rear wheels with junk tires for $900. That gives you an idea about the value of Ford tractor parts. After all, where you gonna get new ones??? :)

I'm not looking forward to the day I have to split her, but I don't have any immediate plans to do so. But who knows what tomorrow may bring. :)

The wheel weights are resting in the back of my pickup truck. She rides much better with a few hundred pounds in the bed.

I do have an issue with the left rear wheel: It wobbles pretty bad. The center casting appears to be seated uniformly on the axle flange, but when I measure the depth of the flange center boss from the outside of the wheel, there is about a .10" difference from one side of the boss to the other. I'm going to jack it up tomorrow and find out what isn't running true. Hard to imagine a bent axle, but I guess anything is possible.

I hope (and think) that the paint on the hub and wheel have prevented the wheel from seating properly on the flange, but I'll let you know what I find.

Yeah, please do. Adjustable wheels of that style tend to wobble. A lot of room for error. Rare to see the problem be at the axle flange, but possible.

Well, I put her up in the air and spun the wheels. For a rough cut, I just steadied a pointer on the axle housing to look at runout on the axle flange. There was nothing detectable by the nekkid eye. Ditto for the backside of the wheel center casting on the surface that mates with the axle flange. Out of curiosity, I rigged up a dial indicator to check runout on the back of the wheel casting and got somewhere in the neighborhood of .01" which surprised me. I didn't get a real number 'cause I didn't have my specs and it looked closer than I had expected, anyhow. So the axle seems OK.

Then I put my pointer out by the bead seat on the rim and I've got about an inch of total wobble, so the rim is bent, but not enough for me to worry about. Didn't check concentricity, though I probably should have. That rim feels like it jogs down the highway at top speed. Fortunately my highway time will be minimal.

Yeah, an inch of wobble is a LOT. Check the locks on the adjuster slide and make sure they are all in the proper position. There's just so much room for error in those wheels it's hard to get them to track straight. If the rim is truly bent it was probably done by improperly trying to adjust the wheel.

Thanks for the tip. I haven't tried any adjustment myself. I just had the wheels blasted and then I painted 'em. Right hand side seems fine, but I'll see what can be done about that on-side wheel, but I have a feeling I'm just going to have to live with it. Like I said, I don't even notice it at the speeds I travel 'round my plot.

Here's a pic of me an' my tractor doing out first job together:

Sorry if it's too big.

Chipper works great, too. Just don't start the pto with the hydraulic in-feed engaged. It can be hard on the sheer pin.

Also, I'm looking for ideas about some engine issues. Where should I post those questions?

She a Beaut!!!!

Edit: If the engine questions are Ford specific, start a thread in the New Holland owning/operating forum. If they are just general engine mechanical questions, start a thread in the Owning/Operating forum (non brand specific).

Thanks!

Also, I appreciate the suggestions on posting engine stuff.
