Ford vs chevy vs dodge

When I was going to buy my truck (2007 Dodge Ram, quad cab, 8ft Bed, with the Cummins Turbo Diesel) I had a hard time deciding which brand. I finally decided to look at other that were doing the same thins I wanted to do with my truck, which was haul horses around... Cheyenne Frontier Days was in town - the worlds largest outdoor rodeo. I drove through the back lots to see what the guys that depended on hauling their horses around the country to make their living were driving. I do realize that Dodge is a PRCA sponsor, and Ford is a PBR sponsor. About 60% of the cowboys drove Dodge 2500/3500 with diesel engines. 15% each to Ford and Chevy/GMC with the remained a mix of Toyotas and Semis. I bought a Dodge.

So, my suggestion is find people that make their living doing what you want to get a truck for, then find the best deal for the accessories and add-ons that you want. None of them are perfect vehicles, none of them are complete trash, and I think you can get two trucks off the same line and one will work great and one will be a lemon. In most cases all the consumer publications recommend against extended warranties, but IMHO, when you are buying something you expect to significantly outlast the warranty it might be worth a look.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

Hey anyone crazy enough to haul around 10k lbs with an 05 dodge ram 1500..have a chance to score up a sweet deal but I need to know if it's possible with some upgrades.

Depending on the rear gears, it would probably work, that would be right on the edge of the towing limit.

wow 10k with a 1500 that i want to see with my own eyes

Air bags, 3.92 rear gears, hemi, and good trailer brakes, it would work. I had a 2007, and it seemed like it was rated near 10,000 lbs.+

Edit, I looked up what a 2005 could tow, it looks like its less than 9000 lbs, so towing 10,000 lbs would really be pushing it.

Towing in the mountains I use an F550 diesel with 4.88 gears, gives good control of a 10k to 14k trailer. Towing at 65 to 70% of rated capacity it sure add a degree of safety imo.

I had a 05 with a hemi, crew cab and 4round bales was all it wonted. The a/c went out couple times.
I think should stay in a 3/4 ton for safely pulling 10,000lbs,you can do it with half ton with bumper dragging.
My father-in-law has a 2000 chevy heavy/half with 6.0gas,with over 350,000miles never any troubles, and its pulled a trailer all its life, still going today.
I have had good luck with the 5.9 cummins with standard trans.
My brother and friends 6.0 diesels something is always wrong with them.
I have a 7.3 but I must of got someones headache cause its got all kinds of issues.
So gas the chevy 6.0. And diesel 5.9cummins 12v or 24v
