Forney Model C-5BT Welder

   / Forney Model C-5BT Welder #11
Only thing I would caution; even minor things, like replacing ground clamp, work clamp and leeds, and your turning the $60 purchase into a $160; and all the sudden you have new machine money, in an old machine that isn't as versatile
Agree, that ancient Forney only makes sense if it's usable as-is. Don't spend any money on it!

My $50 in 2003 (yard sale) Wards PowrKraft 230 hasn't needed anything beyond polishing the leads where they plug in, and the recommended oiling of its fan every few years. There's nothing inside these beyond a huge simple transformer.

On thing these antiques can do, that isn't recommended for a modern electronics-based design: run a carbon-arc torch. This is a heating device for use similar to where you would use a Bernz-o-matic propane torch. Ancient forgotten technology. I have two of them. Impressive heat, and light. I haven't found a use for them however. These might be useful for heating a metal strap to bend it, or other artistic metalworking.
