Foton FT404 electric fuses problems

The SOL you are talking about it the fuel cutoff sol, it actually SHOULD pull in turning the fuel ON to the injector pump when the KEY is turned ON. When the key goes OFF a spring should pull the lever the opposite direction and kill fuel stopping the eng.

The Glow Plugs should pull close to 40 amps (for 4 of them) if they are same as the ones used in the 3 cyl JM as the 3 cylinder pulls 30 amps (roughly 10 amps per plug when COLD as heat builds amps go down/resistance goes up.) The Buss Bar that connects them all together should be removed and each GP ohm checked individually. Compare each plug to the others to see and their readings should be very close to one another.

My phrasing "starter solenoid" is maybe wrong. It's more of a linear motor pushing or pulling a wire to stop the diesel injection pump.

It's simply the fuel cut-off switch. In this country, most of us call that the "kill switch".

That part is correct. But applying your JM254 electrical system to that of the FT404 is apples to oranges. First, GPs on the Foton are fed by a relay. Second, I don't believe either of us knows the total system average. I'm assuming 30, you're assuming 40 or more.

Traktorz: I believe we could provide more specific numbers if you were to provide specifics on the system fuse rating (in amps) and the GP relay rating (in amps)

The remaining problem now is the defective glow plug. Measuring the DC resistance did reveal that #2 was broken, (counting in direction from the cooler). The other three glowplugs had consistant 1.7 Ohm resistance, while the broken one 0.1 Ohm. Not hard to guess the 30A fuse did blow instantly.

Some says you're supposed to change all four, so that you will get an uniform current consumption.

But where can I get hold of those glow plugs? Is it a standard like spark plugs? Where can i find equivalent parts?

I've been measuring the glow plug physical dimensions and report those dimensions in the attached picture.

Foton/Lovol/EuroLeopard dealers should keep the appropriate glow plug sets in stock. The reason old style GPs should be replaced in sets is related to heat. It's a physical law that resistance changes with temperature. Given a constant voltage, amperage then changes proportionate to resistance. The repeated heating/cooling cycles experienced by glow plugs slowly but inexorably alter their original (new) resistance. They age as a set similar to spark plugs. So whereas you typically change spark plugs as a set, so should you change glow plugs as a set.

Exactly, but the provision of spare parts sems to be a weak point. Europe isn't high on Foton-Lovol's priority list.
I'm still hunting for matching glowplugs at various places. Yet no luck without a reference number to provide.

That engine also goes into fork lifts, generators, large water pumps. Put variations of "C490BPG" (engine, diesel, etc) into your internet search engine of choice. You might get lucky and find them at a non-tractor parts house.

Finally got a set of four original heat plugs for our tractor, through the swedish importer. It's nice to hear the diesel engine running again.

Hello,
I have heard of people swapping out the alternator for a internal voltage regulator alternator, to solve the wire burning issues and fuse issues, I'm in the process now of swapping mine over with a 80 GM 2 wire connector type.
Problem is when I got the tractor they didn't have the gauges working, I thought it was because they lost the keys. I don't know if they removed the power to the gauges or...? I used a power wheel battery to check if gauges worked and everything seemed ok. Have you had issues with gauges ?
Know anyone that did this style swap?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
