Hi all. What a wonderful group here. I'm thinking of buying a new/ first tractor with attachments & was wondering if these are normal charges? Tractor freight-$880 & setup-$200, attachments-$150-$250 each for freight & setup. This adds quite a bit to the total cost & just don't want to pay more than I should. Any advice would be appreciated.

In the end it doesn't matter what how they break down the cost. What matters is how much you write the check for.

Some dealers charge Freight and setup seraratey, others just fold it into the total cost. I got quotes from three local Deere dealers. One folded it in, the other charged it separate and I never followed up with the last to find out if it was included or not.

The key is to always ask for a out-the-door price with everything included so the dealers are playing on the same field.

My dealer charged the lowest price of any other dealer for the tractor and charged no set-up fee and delivered the tractor two counties away for free.

What you have to look at is the total price no matter how it is presented.

What brand are you looking at?

The problem up there is a lack of dealers and the low population. Look around and check prices.

The other thing is that all of these items are negotiable.

I agree with Cliff. All that matters to me is what the 'out the door' price is. How the dealer breaks it down was irrlevant to me. I do the same thing when buying items on the Internet where lots of sites advertise low prices but then make up the difference by inflating the shipping and handling charges.

Agree with the others. Bottom line, no matter how he/she gets to it is what is important. Make sure you price other tractors that are very similar, and have the same attachments. You'll see clearly which is the best deal that way.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I think the "out the door" way is the way to go. Like you said, they can get it one way or another. Everything is negotiable, except death & taxes. By the way, I'm looking at the JD 4520 & the Kubota L5030 w/ loader, box scraper, tiller, rotary cutter, finish mower, & landscape rake for about $38k.

On the Kubota cab or non cab? Type of gearing?

My experience with the attachments is that the dealer ones are somewhat overprice on occasion. A lot of the items, that I have, including two tillers are from TSC and were about sixty per cent of the dealer ones, although a different brand.

Both units have hydro tranny. Attachments would be Buhler Farm King except for the loader. No cab. Oh, also a Worksaver post digger.

I am not familiar with the pricing on the attachments, but the price seems high to me, even for North Dakota.

My L4630GSTC was 31200 with the loader, QA, bucket, three remotes, radio kit, rear windshield washer, draft control, block heater, rear work light, including prep and freight, and ag tires. This was in November of 04. There should not be that much difference in the price of the two tractors. Remember that I have the cab model.

I purchased mine in Mandan and had to work them on the price based on the pricing seen on this forum. At the time I paid a little more than others on this board for the same in a 5030. Chalked that up to being in ND.

You might want to check out TSC on the attachments, have been happy with mine. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Dumbdog, this sentence seems to be incomplete. Did you mean to include the price you paid for this list?
Thanks, John

That was the price for the full package and includes everything that I mentioned.

The only difference is the rear windshield washer should have been rear windshield wiper, I end up washing the windows myself. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I don't see that you posted a price, just the list of what you bought.

I think I'm getting computereyeitis as I read that line 3 times, and took the 31200 for another type of number! Sorry for the brain fart. That wasn't a bad price for all you got. Not to dumb, dog.

Don't feel bad KJ:

I did too the first time...the second time I read it, it made sense. I did get a good laugh though seeing your posts. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just letting you know the computereyeitis is spreading.

Without the dollar signs, it must be a piece of equipment? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well, actually, YES. I think my mind rather thought it was a model number of some kind, and I kept reading to find the $, but didn't see it.
One thing about me, I don't mind admitting I screw up. Much more royally than this sometimes!
