FRESH roasted coffee beans by mail?

Does anyone have a recommendation on good quality, super fresh roasted beans delivered to your house?

I've been getting fresh roasted, whole bean coffee from these guys since 1998. They roast to order and ship that day via UPS. I receive it the next day.

Yes, I agree. I think they are in line with other high quality, fresh roasted coffee these days. I've been with them since '98 and I remember when the coffee was $9/lb, so that's my point of reference. :shocked:

Very timely thread for me. Our local roaster retired after 40 years and I am ready to go back to the cast iron skillet. Will try these mail order places too. Prices seem very reasonable.

Check out Sweet Maria's Coffee online. I've never bought roasted coffee from them. I've only bought the beans green and roasted them myself. Turned out great.

Thanks for the replies so far. I'd like to find a place that either roasts on a regular enough basis that they are always shipping beans within a couple days of roasting, or that roasts as the orders come in. Regardless I'm having a hard time finding beans that have a 'roast date' on them at all, let alone recently :laughing:

I may be stuck with having to drive the 30 mins to the new location that my local roaster moved into. I suppose that isn't that bad, but I'd rather something delivered to my door. Although on the plus side, I believe I can take my snowmobile right to their front door in the winter time.



I've actually tried the home roasting thing, using an air popper, probably about 10 years ago now. I ordered my beans green from Sweet Maria's. I did like it, I actually enjoyed the whole process, but once winter came along I had a really difficult time getting a consistent roast (roasting outside). I'd love to try it again with a better roaster, and I had looked over the last couple of months off and on, but I don't remember seeing much in the way of roasters in the 300-400 dollar range. I'll check out the Behmore. Can you get a darker roast out of it, or mostly just light to medium?

I have no trouble getting well into 2nd crack with my Behmor 1600+ with 0.75-1.0 lbs (the + is important since it indicates the upgraded control panel which allows you to control the roast manually).

The 1600 is about the size of a small microwave. I roast on the stove top under the fume hood--which is an outside vent.

If you decide to home roast, you [must either roast outside or have a vent to the outside. All of the roasters for the home market say they produce little or no smoke. They all lie like a bad dog.
