the dealer also said that the tractor must be sitting on all tires at all times while digging, not elevated to level with the outriggers/front bucket,,,Have any of you heard this before?

Tires on the ground. That's been my understanding.

Wow! That looks bad. I have over 150 hours of backhoe time. Some of it pretty tough work. No problems here. But, I do keep all 4 wheels on the ground, and I use a Rhino backhoe rather than Kioti's.

No kidding? I would be guilty of abuse if I had a backhoe on a utility tractor then. The only backhoe I have is on an older 580 Case and I have always had all the tires off the ground when I used it. I guess that since I have never owned a backhoe on a utility tractor I would have thought they would be operated the same way. I feel relatively certain that it would put more stress, and be able to dig harder, when supported by outriggers and front bucket.

Thanks for the info. If I ever do borrow a utility tractor with a backhoe I'll be sure to not use it the way I do the Case. And, no sarcasm here, I didn't know that. I'm glad to hear that the dealer is getting the tractor taken care of. I've never heard of such a failure on a Kioti before.

I've always kept the tires on the ground with the parking brake on to help from keeping the backhoe from dragging me around. I thought it made for a steadier base, IMO.

Hey rhud, don't feel bad. My newest tractor is a Massey Ferguson model 85.

Is this going to be covered under warranty? Impressive if it is. If not, my offer still stands to buy the tractor. That's really not a difficult repair, just time consuming.

The manuals for Woods backhoes state to keep the tires just off of the ground.
You want to keep the tractor low for a bigger footprint, but the weight needs to be off the tires.

Thank you for the pictures rhud. Unless there was some sort of bold warning to leave all the tires on the ground I too would have used the outriggers to lift the machine as necessary to anchor it just as we've all seen before with real backhoes. Looks like it was broken and kept being used while it banged around a bit to hog out the crack.

My first tractor was my 1973 IH500C dozer which I bought and sold within the last decade. I appreciate keeping old equipment running. Partial to IH of course.

i've got a MF 1085, with the unturboed perkings 318 engine...love the big cab..bought it so my kids and dog could ride with me during hay season.

of a full sized backhoe, you almost always lift the rear wheels and unload the front wheels. you would rather have the outriggers loaded than the axles. what would you do if digging on a hillside? i've sit my jcb on hills that would make you slide out of the seat if the tractor were not leveled. anyway. if it was in the manual, thats the way it should be used.

attached is side view (yeah, i was dissappointed, i expected to see the whole tractor in a bent V shape.) so my title was too exagerated. thanks for the help fellows.
