of a full sized backhoe, you almost always lift the rear wheels and unload the front wheels. you would rather have the outriggers loaded than the axles. what would you do if digging on a hillside? i've sit my jcb on hills that would make you slide out of the seat if the tractor were not leveled. anyway. if it was in the manual, thats the way it should be used.

You are correct. You want to use the outriggers to level the tractor. When digging on a hill, it may not be possible to get all wheels off the ground.

This is the first time I have seen this happen on a Subframe backhoe.... It is fairly common on 3pt backhoes to break clutch housings as they don't offer the support like a subframe. Its under warranty, and you'll be back in business.

If digging in that hole is called abuse I'm wondering what the backhoe can be used for!!!:D :D :D

Highbeams comments make a lot of sense. Note the rust on a new fracture and the different degress of spacing on the crack. I'd suggest c bad casting???

yeah, i have not seen the actual fracture...it has rained since the break,,,so the rust may be recent,,,not a continuing break. i figure (guess) that a weak casting causing a stress riser, then either a rapid progress of crack or a total failure (he did say a loud pop). i did notice that he was digging at a stomp.

Way back when I first got my shop manual I saw that in order to get to the clutch you had to separate the engine from the rest of the tractor. The diagram showed a ladder frame that the engine slid away from the tractor on. I don't see that frame on the tractor so it must be something a shop has to support the tractor when getting to the clutch. I was thinking if the tractor did have this frame that the bolts might have been loose. But from what I can tell that frame is special for a shop use and not on the tractor??? Good luck to your friend Ruhd and thanks for posting. I bet Kioti is more interested/concerned about this than we are! When it stops raining I'm going to go out and inspect my housing.

I saw the rust color too but looking at the color of the clay in the photo it might be mud.

you said you were in Virginia. Where about? As for that tractor can you tell us who the dealer is. If it is in North Carolina id like to know who they were since they are having to warranty this. I have a CK 20 with the kb 2365 and have dug out bigger stuff then that. I have also pushed upto 8" tress dwon with it and dug them out. Im thinking this was a casting or fatige scratch issue myself. I have seen the bell housing broke on tractors before and it almost always is that except whe you have the 3pt back hoes. i really would like to know the final outcome of this:)

Allways lift the wheels off the ground with the bucket and the outriggers when using a hoe . Just have a look at the Kioti ad at the top of this page , outriggers fully deployed with the left rear wheel obviously higher to level the tractor . Ide say its a miracle they all hav'nt broken in half after seeing that tiny little housing right at the point of the greatest leverage between the loader and the hoe . Just looking at the side shots , it appears the loader has about a 4-1 leaverage advantage over the casing and the hoe has about the same . Put a 350kg load on either end and that is 1400kg at the casing , which is the same as putting a bottle jack under the casing and lifting the tractor off the ground . Ide say its back to the drawing board for Kioti to build a stronger/stiffer tie frame to marry it all together . The one they have is obviously flexing and the cast iron casing does not .
