I have checked my front axle oil and some time ago and is fine, also I have been reading about Shortgames problem with his FEL (rollback weakness). I guess I hadn't tried if the 7010 rollback would lift the front end of tractor off the ground. I am happy to report that it lifts it "no problem".

Dealer changed my fuel tank the other day too, thanks for that tip.

Did you get a tank with a better skid plate system? Is the problem with broken tanks the same on the 5020? Do you have any pictures of the new tanks? I am assuming you dealt with pattersons..

I have checked the front axle level, I can see fluid but there is no dip stick, is there supposed to be or is it if you can see fluid, good enough. Thanks btw its a r 3039h

The one on top is for filling and the one on the side is for checking. It is full if you put some in top and it comes out the side.

I just changed mine and i am glad i did.. it sparkled as it came out..:Lots of fine metal particles cause this is after all a brand new tractor and i expect that as the gears break-in.. However on the hub i am a bit confused...there is a fill at the top and bottom drain.. My book says they share the same sump but i cant picture it because the hub pivots inbetween the axle and hub..has anybody cracked the hub drains to see? I just drained the front axle from the middle drain..

my tractor has 120 hours on it now...

I changed S3010 front axle oil at 50 hrs and as I remember there were 3 drain plugs per the manual. Most came out of the two outside hub drains. Didn't see any metal though. After reading earlier in this thread about air pockets I'll be checking the level again this weekend.

Thanks.. Sounds like they do share the same sump on the front axle then.. I will drain from there in the fall when i do the fluids nexted time..

I have the same tractor --- I have a dipstick on one wheel (the top plug) and a simple plastic plug on the other side. So, the dipstick just moves back and forth.

Sorry for long time period on response I'm away in NWT working. I had heard on this forum of another person having a leaky tank since the skid plate is threaded in the tank with plastic inserts (poor design). So I looked at mine and it was the same, but was not leaking. I mentioned it to Pattersons asking if there was a recall, they said no. But they offered to change for me under warranty anyway. New skid plate does not bolt directly into plastic tank. I was lucky because I have been cutting wood and driving over lots of stumps and downed trees and it did not leak. I had already came up with an easy modified design, but before I actually did it I went in and asked about recalls, and it was a worth while drive to the dealer.
