Front bucket hooks gc series

I can see it as very useful if you dont have pallet forks or a grapple. With those two attachments I just cant really justify it. It's probably because I dont know how to weld - lol. But seriously - I am still trying to talk myself into it.

Put these on a few weeks ago. Lifted my 550 lbs Box Scraper out of the back of my truck without any trouble.

You don't need to weld. Get the bolt on style. That's what I have.

I have pallet forks. There are many more uses for a chain and hook than forks.

Could some of you that have hooks attached to your buckets give me ideas on what you do with them. And if its jobs that are dragging related . . Why the fel and not thev3pt. ? Thanks.
Now that I have a grapple and pallet forks I don't use the hooks very much. Before that I used the hooks quite a bit. A bare bucket is darn near useless for anything besides moving dirt. Try moving a stump or large firewood rounds without some hooks. I plan on welding hooks on Grandpas tractor bucket soon. I have needed them several times for pulling post and moving implements. That's his tractor in the picture, but I was using my bucket. I also have a hook on the boxblade. image-3935840779.jpg

I can see why people weld on the 2inch receiver, but what do y'all do with your hooks? I have pallet forks for lifting.

I like the idea of hooks, just not sure what I could use them for.

this is just one example. YouTube

the hooks on mine get used quite often. no bracing has been required.

it is usual much better to pull from the bucket end using the backhoe or whatever you have hanging off the back of the tractor for ballast.

depends on what you are doing.

for general yardwork my forks get used so much more often than hooks that its hard to make a comparison. 60-80 times as often wud be ballpark figure.

bare bucket moving dirt is the one I least use, however I do have to remove the forks to use the bucket mounted ball to move trailers around.

btw, not a fan of drilling holes in buckets if I can help it.

and the least handy implement I have built was also the one that was the most work to build.

Rjmack . . The picture you attached of your bucket showing the chain fastened lower side was perfect. Now that to me really explains how chains can be used . . thanks.

sorry, I don't understand. the chain you see holds the forks on. the design has been slightly modified to hold the ready rod parallel to the bucket.

there is a hook welded on each side and a trailer ball welded to a repad in between them. no issues to date. :)

See post #19 where pilgrim lists umpteen uses. Many of those things you aren't going to do with pallet forks or a grapple. And most GC series users have no pallet forks or grapples. If you run into those things or similar you see a need for the hooks. If you don't encounter those sorts of things, you won't see the need. My own case (and I think a high % of tractor users) is that we like the flexibility of picking up almost anything -- when we need to-- with a chain and the bucket in hundreds of unpredictable circumstances. That is probably a whole lot more common on larger tractors than the GC series but even on small lawn machines like my BX2200 Kubota I often find the hooks handy.

I have a gc 1710. There was some plugs on the front end loader I replaces with some hooks ( see photos). What has everyone put there? I put some removal eye hooks that are often used for trailers I got a rural king. They unscrew when not in use. Anyone see a problem with these? I have yet to use them.
Hey Bevis, I read through all of the replies and saw no replies to your original question. I also asked several dealers before purchasing my GC1723 and none of them could answer the question. I'm thinking of installing hooks similar to the ones you installed but will not be using them to pull or lift heavy loads. I'll most likely only use them to lift lighter stuff or for straps where the bucks it handling the load and all the strap is doing is helping to keep it from tipping out of the bucket.
