Ya, he says he had the grapple on the stump trying to pull (or dig, or pop) the stump out, so the valve should have been open in that case. Either way, that line should have held.The relief valve only works if you're moving the joystick on any of the functions and only for that function. If you happen to ram into a pile with all the spools in Neutral, there is no relief valve to protect anything.
Essentially, it won't protect the loader/tractor from external forces being applied. Something gave, in this case the hard line, otherwise something a lot more expensive could have broke.
These loaders valve don't have work port relief valves either, which would prevent this.
