JD 790 with 419 loader. If try to feather the load up, it drops, pull a little farther on the control and it works as it should. Same going down, its like it's going in "float" mode.

Any suggestions?

Been a registered member for 5 years and just now making first post?

I would check all the joystick linkages and check the spool bottoms (under the cups) for anything loose etc...

Good Luck...

Dropping while trying to raise could be a load check in your control valve stuck open.

While lowering are you saying you get better control by moving the lever further Vs trying to feather?

like /pine states, check all the mechanical stuff first

Have you had the hoses off lately?

Reads like you have the Lift & Lower hoses swapped.

:wrench:

Like said before the load checks stuck open and it could be that it doesn't even have any. Show a picture of the valve.

X3. Load checks.

What he is describing is exactly what a load check is for.

Thanks for the replies!

The load check sounds like a good possibility, is it hard to get to?

I miss posted, it only does it for raising the bucket.

I have had the hoses off, the loader is replaced with a front mount snowblower every winter. All the motions of the joystick are same as before, ie pulling back raises the loader.

Also, I put a shim pack in pump for more pressure, I removed them yesterday with no change for my problem.

Depends on the style of the valve. If this is a stock JD part then the JD parts break down shows them being accessible from the same face as the work ports. I would suggest you look at the parts break down or talk to you local dealer. They should be able to verify where they are located.

I believe this is the correct drawing for your valve (came from JDParts: Unsigned Landing Page its free, check it out). Luckily this is an older machine and shows the breakdown for it-the newer ones don't show anything but the valve itself.
