Now that spring is coming how about some updated reviews on dethatchers. I am debating buying one for my BX1500 so I won't have to rake our half acre lawn. Any advice will be greatly appreciated:thumbsup:

I looked at more expensive dethatchers, but finally bought a Brinly. This brand sells in 2 versions: the very light 40" unit sold by the big box home centers and a heavier 48" model sold by power equipment companies. I have the latter. I tow mine behind my zero turn mower. 2 passes at 45 degrees to one another. It works flawlessly. I don't find any need for weight in the tray. Deere sells what looks like the same unit, but with retractable wheels. Very nice, but I didn't want to pay the extra money for something I only use once a year. These light units can be surprisingly aggressive depending on how low you set the tines.

I bought mine from Chappell Tractor in Milford, NH.

I don't recall exactly. It was about $150-200, best I can remember.

I built mine and in combination with the mower and bagger the lawn looks great when I finish.

Having a front mounted tine rack is definately the way to go. I have a 48inch tow behind for my mower and it requires me to make 2 passes. Once to tine and once to mow it all up.

Custom built 3 pt unit. Very happy with its performance. When I'm done doing my 2 acres I use the standard pull behind sweeper to clean up.
