Frontier Power Rake Cost

I am looking at buying a used Frontier PR1172 power rake. I am having difficulty making any sense out of the prices. I found a used one for around 2K at a dealer - and he said the list price on it was 3k. I have seen ones that sold on auctions for around 2k. I also see a number of used ones for 5K and a number of new ones for 7-10K. It almost seems there are 2 models one in the 2-3k (used-new) and another in the 5-10k (new-used) - although I think there is really just one model. Any thoughts on the pricing of this thing and why I am seeing 2 sets of prices?

Also - I am looking at using this to level off about 4 acres that is in farm field condition right now - very rough to ride over even in a compact tractor. It is currently all weeds - but mowed regularly. There are a large number of small rocks (1-5 inch) under the surface also. Is this the best implement for this ?

A 6 foot power rake is in the 6-7k range new. A used unit not all beat up will run 3-4k in this area. Frontier and Woods were both manufactured by Harley at one point. The newer units are not, in terms of its use on the 4 acres it will certainly do the job but it will take a while. After you get the hang of how to operate it you'll end up with windrows of rocks. It sounds like a rockhound may be a worth looking into.

So it sounds like the one in pretty good shape would be worth $1.5-2k that I can probaby get it for. Thanks for the info!!
