I suppose it is now to late to stock up. Might just as well hang in there until next summer. Since I am not getting any snow I should be able to get by until April I would think. May be have to buy 6 gallons at the higher price and hope prices drop.

Well I was wrong about the price of the oil going up reason. Evidently there is plenty of oil out there to buy but our wonderful companies are not buying any oil to create a short supply in the US. The reason is that prices are usually 150 days behind what you buy oil by the barrel for. If the oil companies are buying oil for $33 a barrel and 150 days from now there is no more conflict or reason for oil then oil will go down to $20 a barrel. The companies then will be selling $33 a barrel oil for what $20 barrel oil will go for. This is what they are expecting oil to do. The Ven. deal is supposed to be clearing up and they are expecting to flood the market with alot of oil to catch up for what they've lost. The war with Iraq is the wild card. Instead of getting caught with this $33 a barrel oil they just aren't buying and creating a shortage so they can sell the fuel from 150 days ago at an increased profit that they bought at $22 a barrel.

While a pending war & unknown future uncertainty may have some part in the higher prices… I feel the bulk of the higher prices are a direct result from the unusually abnormal colder temps most of the U.S. has been experiencing…

Instead of converting a barrel of crude into gasoline products… most are being converted to #2d/ home heating oil to try and keep up with the excessive heating demand… the remainder is used for gas… which brings us back to the supply/demand equation…

It hasn’t stopped there… the natural gas prices are up ~~ about 4x’s from this time last year… again because of the heating demand going on right now… /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Well you can always order a load of #2 heating oil instead of diesel...its the same thing.

The problem is, diesel at the pump is 1.69 and the #2 fuel delevered to my house the other day was 1.70! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Our local truck stop is charging $ 1.96 to $1.99 a gallon for diesel, some stations are charging a little over $2.00/ gallon. Home heating oil in the area is ranging $1.69 to $1.75 today.

Theres a off road diesel pump about 20 miles from here, the pump accepts credit cards. I've been tempted to get
some for my tractor, but driving 20 miles is a pain for 10 gallons at a time, and getting a big enough container to store it in to make it worth while (like 100 gallons)... eh... So I just get it downtown and pay the ungodly tax for now.

Has anyone bought off-road diesel at the pump?
Does it require paperwork or codes on the pumps?

John
