Gordon,

How do you get the feed into that feeder? It's huge!!!! How much does it hold?

Is the concrete pad to keep the animals from eating dirt? Is it something you'd recomend?

Is the fence to keep out hogs? Do the deer just jump it to get to the corn?

Sorry for all the question.

Eddie

Eddie,
This protein feeder hold 2000 lbs. We have another one that holds 1000 lbs. To fill them we rent a feed trailer from the feedstore that's loaded with 3000 lbs of protein feed. The trailer has a rotary valve and a blower and the feed is blown into the feeders.

The concrete pad prevents the deer from digging or wearing a depression under the feeder that would turn into a puddle during wet weather. The feed that fell on the ground would spoil if we didn't have the pad there.

The fence is mainly to keep the ranchers cattle from eating the protein feed. The cattle would eat it all empty in a matter of weeks.

YIPPY!!!!

For the first time, we have pictures of deer on the game cam!! :) :D

Steph and I were walking around the dam last week and she noticed that there were deer tracks crossing the creek at this area. We decided to move the Game Cam to a tree that overlooked this area to see if we could get some pictures of them.

It took awhile, but the results are worth it!!!!

Eddie

Good job. I bet you're excited. I seen some deer on the back of our place 1 time a couple years ago, nothing since.

Nice fat looking racoon you have there. You must be feeding him well!!!

Until we captured our first one on the game cam, we'd never seen one on our land. But since the pictures, we've seen them along our driveway at night and Steph even spotted one in a tree above a trail we were walking on.

We've moved our camera again. We're seeing a pair of dog tracks following a group of hogs. One is pretty big, the other is much smaller. My neighbor said he's seen them and it's huge coyote with a pup. We're trying to catch a picture of them on one of the trails they use.

I also am trying to get coyote/bobcat pics. There is a cage in the background of the racoon pic that I have suspended from a tree limb with a live chicken in it. I was hoping that "live bait" would draw them in, and I'm sure it eventually will. The coons eat the spilled chick feed. I figured they would be up on the cage trying to get chicken too, but that hasn't happened yet. A couple more of the coons, and a daylight pic of my dogs checking out cage area.

Back for a closer look. Seems like this guy was startled by flash pic1, comes for closer look pic2, and adjusts camera pic3. I had to bring camera back to house and clean mud off of flash and lense.

What's the metal looking cage? and whats in it?

My camera is on a remote trail right now without any luck. One big advantage is my batteries are lasting weeks. When I had it at that feeder with all the hogs, it was flashing 120 to 140 times a night and the batteries only lasted about five days to a week.

If we don't get anything at the location it's at now, we'll move it this weekend to my good feeder 200 yards behind the house. That's were we see the most hogs at anyway.

Eddie, it's a 2 compartment cage, about 2x2x6. I have it suspended from a tree limb. I have a live chicken in the end that has plastic over top to keep out rain (plastic is an old political sign), and I keep feed and water in there for the chicken. I thought by doing this coyote's, bobcat, owls, etc. may be drawn to it for photographing. There is a creek about 10 yards away, and I also have a spot I'm trying to get pics of some beavers. Then, there's always that elusive capybarra.
