I might buy a few for the backyard along with some chickens this year. I need to make sure I'm coyote proofed first.

Gordon and Eddie, it's fun to have turkeys in the yard, but it does have its drawbacks. Just before Valentine's Day, Kathy saw what she thought was a heart-shaped rock on our driveway. She was going to pick it up, but kicked it first with her shoe. You guessed it...:p Turkey poo on her shoe.

Our neighbors, Chuck and Sandy, have thier house built right into the woods. The trees come right up to their small patio deck on the back side of their house. They have sliding glass doors going out to the deck. They also throw out corn on some rocks that start just a dozen feet from their back door. The turkeys have become so used to this that they come right up on the deck and peck at their reflection in the sliding glass doors. It's a pain for them to just keep all the turkey litter off their deck.

I'm attaching four pictures that Sandy took with her new camera looking right out her back door. The deer in the picture were eating corn on their rocks just off their patio deck. The deer did not run as Sandy slowly opened the door to take these pictures. This was during the first snow we had in January this year. It makes my heart beat fast every time I look at these shots.

These aren't game-cam shots, so I apologize if I'm hijacking your thread Eddie.

Those are very nice pictures Jim. We had deer grazing in our yard everyday when we moved here in 2000. They would walk by the screened in porch close enough that you could touch them if there wasn't a screen between. I don't think they could see through the screen. Turkeys would come up and look right at you from about 2' away but I don't think they could see me either. We had a 6 lb dog at the time, she would chase after them barking and they would run off. After a month or so, they would just stand and look at her. 2 of the deer got hit by our driveway, they haven't hung around our yard since. We see deer in the neighborhood but rarely in our yard.

He made a mistake.

That boar has been coming around a couple nights a week, but never at the same time, and never two nights in a row. When he does show up, it's been later and later in the evening. At first he was here at 8pm. Then it was an hour or two later. The last week he's been there early in the morning.

This morning, he was there just a little too long. I shot him with my rifle resting on my dozer blade from about 180 yards. He's a solid 200 pounds, maybe a few more. Typical of this area, he doesn't have much for tusks.

I don;t know if that is a fox or a coyote. I would think due to body size it would be a coyote. Just thought I would add this pic of a red fox that hangs out behind the house.

Nice job, Eddie! That is a nice hog. I don't have 'em and don't want 'em, but I can just imagine doing the same thing if I did. Those kiddos look pretty proud of that trophy too.

Everybody thanks for the pics. jinman that one photo you posted with the deer and the turkeys was amazing.

Eddie in this post - http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/1076264-post121.html what is that animal? Is that a fox?

Hi Rox,

That is a coyote. We have way too many of them. There tracks are all around my small pond, along my driveway and pretty much all around the house. I lost one of my ducks to them a few weeks ago too. The other three ducks ran him off and he took to hiding in the trees to avoid them, so it wasn't a total suprise, but it's still anoying.

My neighbor carries a mini 14 with him all the time to shoot them, but it's not as easy as it sounds. They are VERY smart and VERY allert.

The gut pile, skin and non edible body parts from the hog are out in the field where I shot him. We're watching for coyotes to come in and eat them. When I see one, I'll shoot it. Unfortunately, it's been rather cold out lately and the remains haven't started to smell yet. Once it warms up, things should get interesting!!!

Jim,

The hogs are both fun and a curse. If I had a choice, I actually like being able to hunt them year round. It adds to living in the country and never knowing what will happen next!!!

That picture of me with the kids is my new all time favorite!!!
