Did anybody notice the times it's catching the hogs? Three days in a row, it's taken a picture of a hog around 5:30 am!! Then there's the picture of the feeder going off a few minutes later.

The feeder is a cheap Moultre that has a photo cell that goes off at first light and last light. I'm guessing that it's barely light out at 5:30 am and that's causing the feeder to go off.

Eddie

Eddie,
It sounds like your hog needs some coaching, so he comes around at a more reasonable hour, say 6:00- 6:30 am when the shooting light is better. Put the timer type of feeder out there and start extending the time every few days to get the hog "re-adjusted" to your shooting schedule.

We have them come to our deer feeders that throw at 7:00 am and 5:00 pm.

I've had good luck with the Remington Quartz timers.

Matt,

I'm not seeing anything in those pictures. Is there something there? I know mine takes all of pictures of branches or the feeder moving in the wind. I have it set for 3 shot bursts with one minute breaks between taking pics.

I'm also suprised at the picture quality I'm getting. Especialy at night with the flash!!!

Gordon,

I have that exact timer in my good 200 lb feeder. I bought the feeder as a damaged return item at Cabelas in Ft. Worth last spring for $80. The timer lasted about six months, then stoped working. I saw that Remington one at Walmart for $39 and replaced the Cabelas brand timer that I originally had. It works great and is very easy to set.

I think your right, I need a better time so I can control when the feeder goes off. The next time I see one of those Remington feeders there, I'll pick it up. It's getting to that time of the year when they put all there hunting stuff on sale too, so I better start paying attention!!!

Thanks,
Eddie

Eddie, I used some very fancy photo enhancing software and it is now clear to me what Matt caught on his cam  (PIC_0004a.jpg). Compare it to yours (Game_Cam_023_(Small).jpg) if you don't believe me.

In the 2nd pic, what's that washtub on the front of your tractor for?

BTDT,

I don't have a loader on my little tractor, so I needed a handy place to carry stuff and add some front weight when mowing. I found an brake drum for a big rig and bolted it on. Then I cut a piece of grateing for the bottom to create a place to carry sacks of corn, large tools and five gallon buckets.

Rick,

Pretty good job enhancing the pictures!!! hahaha

Steph and I went down to the camera this morning to get the SD Card and see if there are any pictures on it. There wasn't any of animals, just allot of the feeder during the night. We had a storm come through and that might have messed things up some. There was one set of hog tracks to the corn and then away from it along the shoreline of the lake. No pics of him on the camera though.

First picture shows the feeder and what it looks like around it. The hogs are mostly comeing from the thick stuff to the right. You can also see the end of the berm that was the 300 yard fireing position of rifle range # of Camp Fannin. It's a great view up there!!!

Second picture is from my regular camera that my daughter took of me filling the feeder with corn. Behind me, you can see the game cam on the tree.

The hill behind me is part of the dam for Lake Marabou.

Eddie,
The only timer I've found that's better regarding reliability and ease of use is HCR, I just can't get over the price for just the timer itself.

I bought a Remington digital for a new feeder I'm building. What's neat about the digital, is that the timer will work for both 6V and 12V. I need to see if the motor is also dual rated.

Looks like I messed up. Yesterday when we checked the game camera, I realized I forgot to turn it back on after replacing the SD card. :D

What's really bad is there were all sorts of hog tracks all around it, plus two sets of deer tracks.

Today when we went down to it, there was one set of hog tracks around it and the camera counter showed 60 pictures. The last three were of us walking up to it, but the other pics were of this hog or the wind moving the feeder.

The first picture of the hog is a REALLY GOOD ONE!!! :)
