EXCEPT RTV silicone outgasses acid as it cures and that acid is corrosive to copper.

I made 6 of these to put in the slab, the rebar is welded at a height that matches the mesh on the floor, I just finished these tonight and tied them in place. The receivers will be used for grinder pedestals, vise pedestal, bender, saw horse, whatever crazy thing I come up with...
 Good idea, I'll add manual tire changer to the list.

Guess (removed) was serious and right........

>According to Silicones: Chemistry and Corrosion, "Single part silicone sealers generally contain a cross-linking catalyst (such as a tin compound) that is activated upon exposure to moisture in the air." When acetic acid is released, it attacks and corrodes metals such as copper, zinc, brass, and galvanized steel.<

Yeh, he got something there, per what I googled after reading his post. So that's just the room temp vulcanizing stuff then? Can you even get non-rtv silicone caulk at home depot and the like? I never even paid attention, rtv or none rtv.

Cue de fiddle and acordeen, I like it, I love it, want some more of it.

You think I type just fer da finger exercize?

Give you another 1, dem little plastic tubes florist plugs rose stem into perfect fer decorroding copper wires, especially in NY. Fill wid white vinegar, shove wire in and let dangle to shed corrosion. Dump out, let dry and save elsewhere from toolbox.

Gona do underground splice & not buy kit use plastic bottle around splice & fill wid polymer resin fiberglass juice. Go light on de peroxide hardner. Wrap whole splice in roofer patching rubber tape.

BTW, der is nonoutgassing RTV silicone made for potting.

Me either, (removed) has me thinking though and that sometimes hurts. Because 8 years ago I spliced on 20' of 100 amp aluminum entrance cable to my new shop from my house, now aprox 60' total. I used three connectors, each one with garden hose around them, filled with silicone then burred 3' deep, but I dont remember what silicone I used, could be rv type.

But 5 years ago I unhooked it from garage panel and now has it's own 200 amp service, but wonder if that silicone did anything to that aluminum cable? What it was suppose to do was make it water tight so if ever need to use it again it's still there.
