I wanted the desk to be strong enough for anything Karen could think of putting on it, including herself climbing on it to get to the shelves. It holds my weight easily. I tested it by laying down on it while painting the wall in the back corner of the desk.

Took this picture yesterday after getting the range. We're still waiting on the dishwasher and looking at freezers. We're also looking at 4 drawer filing cabinets, but sticker shock on the decent ones has surprised us.

I made the drawers out of 3/4 plywood and put sanded bead board on the face framed in pine. The cabinet doors are similar with sanded bead board and pine. Then I went through my collection of antlers and found a few smaller ones that looked nice. I cut and sanded them so they would fit flat, then drilled them for some threaded rod. Cut the rod and used as much Rexel glue as I could to hold the antlers onto the rod and also glue the antlers onto the wood. So far, it seems to have worked.
