Garden question ? What animal would eat Jalapeno Peppers ?

I would think it is tomato horn worms. I had 3-4 of them strip a pepper plant of all the peppers and leaves in a couple of days. By the time I noticed it, they were almost finished. I found 4 of them bigger than a middle finger still on the plant. I suppose they could leave "teeth marks" with their nibblers.

I'll check that Gary.....I would have never thought about that...I'll let you know...the peppers are right next to the tomatoes.....I hate those hornworms....

You probably don't have slugs as big as we do, but they will eat almost anything and even wrestle you down for the choice veggies.

I remember back in the day, bush pilots were spraying the pontoons and such with pepper spray to keep bear away, kind of like bear repellent. However, bears like it and will lick and chew on things sprayed with it. I imagine you wouldn't feel so good to come back to your plane and finding bits of it chewed up.

No tracks I'll vote for the horn worm theory. Or a sneaky woodchuck. (Don't know if woodchucks have capsaicin receptors in their mouths or not.)

That's what I was thinking, but they suck goats, not peppers.

A Mexican Chihuahua. Those little suckers can pack the peppers away! Sorry, I have no real help.

You laugh but my old dog (not Chihuahua, Malamute..) had no problems with hot foods, habanero sauce didn't bother him a bit.

I am pretty sure rabbits ate some of my anaheim peppers one year. They were not as hot as jalapenos, of course, but still plenty hot enough that I was surprised rabbits would eat them.

Grasshoppers will eat almost anything, especially when it is dry. They ate my habanero peppers, then the pepper plants, a couple of years ago, when there was NO rain, and they couldn't even find weeds to satisfy them. Grasshoppers were eating my onion tops earlier in the season.
