Now compare anything else metal that you bought in the '70's to the price today.

hehe.
In the 70s my parents bought their house for $19k, and their car for $3k.
My house I bought in 2000 ($110k) and my truck ($15k) I bought in 2003 were WAY overpriced. I got ripped off!

My Dad actually had one of those old metal cans with the spring loaded spout on it. I'd love to have one, but I just can't justify the cost.

I got a couple of extra Blitz self venting spouts for a couple of my other cans when I bought my two 5 gallon self venting cans. So I didn't have to take any cans down to the end of my driveway.

If only Home Despot and Doh's would sell the spouts separately, I would have done as you did.

I did make one small modification to Blitz self venting cans...I cut off the kid proof strap on the fill collar.

We have no kids and I don't need that added minor frustration in my life.

I know it's crazy to spend $75 for a metal gas can but it was a little luxury that I don't regret one bit. The cheap plastic cans leaked, tipped over in my truck unless they were tied down and were just difficult to use. My grandchildren will be using the Justrite Uno II cans I purchased. They feel like mil-spec quality, never tip or leak, can be stored indoors with minimal risk and best of all-- you easily slow down or stop fuel flow by releasing a handle lever while the can is elevated. I purchased a couple of two gallon versions to fill up the chain saws and other 2-cycle motors with small gas tanks. The five gallon version with the larger spout is perfect for the tractor and Gator. The best price I found was at this web site:

Well, I guess I am in the minority. I HATE those so-called self venting cans. First time I used one, the gas had expanded and when I loosened the cap gas came out all over my hands. Kinda negates the purpose of reducing air pollution when the gas spills on the ground where it evaporates. They don't pour worth beans. One of the stupidest ideas I have seen in years.

So I looked around and found some vented cans. I have 5 or 6 and have yet to loose a vent cap. I have a 3 or 4 that are the 2 handle kind and 2 that are rectangular, about 16" long, maybe a foot wide and a foot high, made in Canada. Low enough that they don't tip. Only one handle, but they work great & after considerable cogitation I came up with the bright idea of simply putting one hand under them to support the weight, thus negating the need for a second handle.

None of these leak. Haven't lost any vent caps. They pour well.

Anyone want to buy a self venting can cheap?
