Gas powered Tesla

A guy at work just ordered a new Rivian truck. I can't wait to see how that is going to work out driving our bush road into the mine all winter in minus 40.
I doubt he will get it in as much as Rivan currently has one foot on a banana peel, IOW, going to fold. They sure are fugly as well.

I asked where he even ordered it because there are no dealers here and he said direct from their web site. And it was over 100 grand too.
So is the web site going to do repairs and maintenance on it too?? LOL

NO THANKS.

I have a neighbor who bought a Rivian with the nearest "dealer" over 200 miles away. Three times in the past four months it has had to be towed to said dealer for repairs, under warranty. Last week the Rivian disappeared again and a new Cadillac Escalade showed up in his driveway. Neighbor said he had enough and lemon lawed the Rivian.

The fan boys will all tell you electric vehicles don't require any maintenance. They will also tell you how their cars are always-on and connected to the internet and maintenance is an over-the-air software update.

No thank you. I don't want a car to be as reliable as the last software update pushed to my device.

As an aside I just saw a TV commercial for a kia or hyundai suv being promoted "only need your cellphone to drive, no keys. You can text a friend electronic keys to drive your car". WTF? Who wants this? I'd love to see the insurance premiums on that vehicle.

We all will see the insurance premiums, because as is now, we ALL pay for others stupidity.

Yea, if it’s anything like Micro$hit, your car will decide to update and reboot as you’re driving to something important.

Casey's Off Road Recovery has a video where they had to tow a Tesla to the other side of a building because they couldn't get cellular service to start the car.

You don't need cell service to start the car. I've had my Model 3 since 2018 and only replaced the tires at 60,000 miles, one set of wiper blades and a cabin air filter. A couple of warranty repairs were done by mobile service in my driveway. Insurance is less than my Mazda and Zero cost for electricity to charge from solar.

That looked like a second gen Model S so maybe a 2016? I knew updates required either cell or wlan access. That cell service was required to use the car sucks .

So at least from 2018 on Tesla vehicles go directly to phones through blue tooth for entry and use.
Back up or valet would be the key cards. They completely dropped the key Fobs at some point at least on the M Y's.

I priced it out. Insurance costs CDN$400 more per year on a brand new Model 3 than a brand new Prius Prime. For the insurance I can have a $500 deductible for the Prius - the Tesla has to be a minimum of $1,000 because they consider it more expensive to repair.

My current Prius costs CDN$0.06/km to drive at the current cost of gas. A Tesla costs $0.04/km at our current electricity rates. At 20K km/yr driving the Tesla saves $400 in gas. So it's a wash for fuel operating costs and insurance where I live. Unfortunately nobody gives away "free" solar electricity around here.

"Zero cost for electricity to charge from solar." I must have gotten ripped off when I had to pay for my solar panels.

Insurance is something that changes depending on location and driver. Our insurance would be higher with a Tesla then Lexus, simply because of the higher cost of repairs in case of accident.

Nothing against pure electric cars; however, they do not meet our needs. For now we will stick to hybrids.

They must have fixed that.

Here is my model Y losing cellular, didn't seem to care other than telling me we were in a cellular dead zone.
Must have also streamed enough of the music playing into a buffer because the music never stopped either.

May have to do with how long you have been out of cell range. At my place if you have Verizon you would be close to an hour drive before being back in range. AT&T is just a few minutes.

That is interesting.

My phone is 5G through Google contracts which is T mobile.

The Tesla also has wireless not sure who provides service, but would not doubt Tesla will at some point integrate the Starlink system to the cars.

We also have Verizon and there are major differences in when signal cuts out between who is providing service.

GM OnStar is all (at used to be) Verizon, they wanted to tow a car 45 miles so you could remote unlock it.....

Ouch, That would not be good either.

A idiot chasing views. Remember when they told us not to carry a cell phone close to the body, use hands free if possible, not to have near you bed? Well there is a reason for that and yet they seem to not mention that any more. It seems sitting on a huge battery pack is OK now. Myself I am not finished with Eddy and the twins so I am not ready to nuke them. Your *** life may vary

I don't have a problem with electric vehicles but that said I prefer the old gassers that I know and love.
My problem with electric vehicles is not the vehicle, but that the government is trying to force them on us. What is happening to our freedom, our freedom to chose what we want when we want it? Slowly it is being taken away, every thing in our lives is being dictated as to what we can and can't do, while being fed lies that it is for our protection.
No one forced gasoline burning tractors on us when they took over from steam power. No one force us to electrify our homes to replace oil lamps. And so on.
My issue is when fossil fuels are eliminated we will be naked, have stale sandwiches, and return to glass bottles, then we won't be able to afford electric to recharge our electric vehicles. Can you say monopoly?
