Great post, Wayne. You realize if you sell the item for which you paid $2,000 for $2,700, some people will accuse you of gouging. :D

Bad news and good news!
The bad news is that a situation arose and I was unable to evacuate so I will stay here on the westbank and ride it out. I think I have about 12 more hours before the wind gets bad enough to knock out my electricity and cable.
The good news is that now I have time to respond to my fellow TBNers, at least for the next few hours. I have a pretty sturdy house and the neighbors parked a large boat on my property for the storm so if the water comes up at least I have a chance.

Next..................

Like I said, quit whining. It is annoying. Rather than whine, do something about the problem: develop alternative fuels, find more crude oil, develop a cheaper refining process, but don't just complain without offering a solution.
By the way gas prices dropped here about 8 cents a gallon over the last few days.

Since your oil comes from here, shouldn't the price have dropped here since it dropped there? Oh, that's right, you didn't have to evacuate.

I, sir, am a southern gentleman,:) :) :) so I would never accuse you of being a whiner even if you did whine about my "annoying" thread. In the >1000 threads I have written I have never said anything derogatory about a TBNer nor will I start now. TBN is my favorite forum and I use it for educational purposes and occasionally for amusement also. I try to teach others when I can and try to learn from them when possible which is most of the time. When I write a post on a subject, if everyone agrees with me and replies "yeah, you're right" and "me too", then I never learn a thing. I learn from those that disagree with me. I learn the reasons they disagree with me and how opinions frequently vary in different parts of the country. One of the things that I have learned is that never since the civil war has anything happened to make people dislike people from Louisiana such as the events following Katrina did. I can fully understand why and if I wrote a book on the subject I would not be able to change their minds so I won't try.

I do not get mad at those who disagree with me as they are frequently my teachers and if someone disagrees with me and has nothing to further the post except to accuse others in a derogatory way, perhaps it would be best for them to skip my posts and read some of the thousands of other posts on TBN.

My main purpose for this post was to find out if the refineries who ship oil all over the country, raised the price of their product nationwide to all their retailers, or just to people in the evacuation area to "gouge" those in desperate need of their product. As I have found out from you, they did not raise their price to those who were not in desperate need but only to those who had to evacuate. Could this be considered gouging?

Now, as I have several hours to waste while waiting for Gustav to get me, I will pass the time pondering how to develop alternative fuels, searching for more crude oil and developing cheaper refining processes. In the event that I find the perfect solution to one of these challenges, I hope I don't take it to the grave with me.:D:(:D

And I encourage those who disagree with me to reply with their reasons to help keep me well informed.

I will post my best wishes for your safety and hope to hear more from you in a few days.

As far as making money on the sale of things, you have to consider everything needed to decide if your making money on it, which is why I posted it as such, rather than try to add in all the items that have to be considered to decide if you are making money or not. If you truly make money on everything you sell, then the price of the next item you will be selling has no bearing on the current one, but you have to make sure you are making money. Different people go at it in different ways, have different interest rates, different overhead costs, etc, so listing them out is almost impossible.

In any event, I hope like everyone else that the impending hurricane isn't nearly as bad as the last one to hit your region of the country.

By the way, the price of gas dropped 2 more cents where I usually buy gas, today, so it is hard to figure.

So you're going to ride it out, and I'm sure all of us hope it's a good ride. Hope your animals are safe, too.

This thread is pretty amazing. I can't believe that so many people are talking so negatively about the whole deal. The original poster has nothing but the best of intentions and yet some keep shooting him down. Ridiculous. If anybody thinks he is whining come on down and experience that hurricane and all that it involves for yourself. I went through a little hurricane called "Rita".... yea... kinda the forgotten storm. 140mph winds at my place. 4th largest ever in the Gulf. I know where he is coming from and I am appalled that some jack is saying he is whining about the huge rise is gas prices in this area. You know what they say about opinions... but I'm pretty confident that if everybody on TBN lived where me and Tallyho live that wouldn't be saying half the crap that they are. And yeah... I have a choice as to where I live... I live where I do and I'm **** proud of it.

God bless Louisiana and Southeast Texas.

Our northern Indiana gasoline doesn't come from there. We have a huge and getting huger refinery about 70 miles from here. It gets its oil from several different places including your area, the west and Canada.

Gas here in South Bend, Indiana has been at $3.68 for a few weeks. No up, no down. Suburban only cost $132.00 to fill on Thursday.
