Gas tank build.

I've resealed a lot of tanks with sloshing compound... superb results for over 20 years... the new reformulated gasoline turned the sealing compound into goo... not pretty... especially since I did 7 antique car tanks and several motorcycles and tons of small gas engines...
....might have to rethink this. Thanks !

The formulation might have been improved... at least something to ask.

Did you salvage the filler neck from the older rusted out tank or did you source it elsewhere?
Even you with all your skills would have had a hard time fab'ing up the filler neck with the locking flanges on the opening I would think.

I tried using the original filler neck, but it kept cracking at the upper toe of the weld. So I cut it
out, and bought a new one.

I'm too new to tig to attempt making my own tank. And too many practice hours away.
Resealing is probably my best route at this time. Terry

Terry any project is a learning experience. One thing nice about building small tanks, you can roll them so every weld is in the flat position.

Here is my method for welding. With steel I'll tack every 3 to 4-inches. With aluminum, I tack every inch or so. I back step all my welds. Generally don't weld more than 3 to 4 inch long welds. Then move to the far side. This really helps with distortion / warpage. And I feather grind every start and stop.

Thanks for the advice, SA! Maybe I will try.
Still gonna practice more tho...
