Are you sure this wasn't a method to convice your wife that it was time to build a new, custom gate!!!!

I never use the brake on the hydro tractor
just flip to the other pedal and it jumps backwards and you don't have your reaction (which is to jam both feet down)
the only time i ever use the brake is when it's in neutral and I shift from low to high range (or reverse), that's it.

You can also put the FEL up in the air, makes the tractor much shorter (although it rides worse)
typically if I"m real close to something I"ll put the FEL up to get past the obstacle and then put it back down.

and +1 to not getting super close
There's no gain to the extra 2" you get, when it takes an hour to replace a fence post.

I like the reply about all of us " Honest " folks .:) Although not mowing next to my far fence , ( i was disking ) , there are at least 3 T posts that are no longer what you would call as being straight . Now you would of thought I would of learned from the first one , but alas , we truckers are slow learners . And none of the posts were hooked at the same time . Had 1 one year , 1 the next spring and the 3rd was that fall .

The look on my face was likely priceless when I hooked the first . Fence was on my left and tractor started hooking towards the left and bogging at the same time . More POWER and turn hard right , Kind knew I had a problem when wheels were turned far right and was still going left .

Dang near bent that post in to a " V " shape . simple fix though . Cut the clips , pounded in a new post and re-clip the fence . Left old post as a reminder , but alas to no avail .

LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.......I've been clearing some heavy wooded property at our lake place for a couple years now and I have been taking out trees on a DAILY basis that I didn't intend to take out!!!!! (wife doesn't know about that though). I'm a lucky man.....I've plenty of em to make mistakes on.

You guys think our tractor stories are bad, you should see me on my new zero turn mower.........dang that thing is quick and unpredictable.......never drove one before and I've had it for about a month now and still can't get used to it. Just came back from the neighbors.....trying to HELP him by mowing for him a bit tonight........well.......shoot, first thing I did was knock his dang boat right off his blocks under his jack!!! Happened so dang fast it made my head swim!!! I've rode alot of cutting horses in my day but I can get this thing in my brain I bet I could cut a cow with it!!!

My first ride on my ztr started with me mowing the gas cap that I forgot to reinstall after fillup and ended with me stuck on a tree (i'll explain). The rear engine guard of my mower has about six-eight inches of clearance between inside edge of guard and engine. While trying to mow close to a six-eight inch tree along my drive the rear wheels slid on the slope and the clearance between engine and rear guard became full of tree. I had to get out the wrenches and sockets to dissamble the rear end of my first day home mower just to get her off a tree, this was after buying a new fuel cap earlier the same day. I love my ztr but like explained earlier in this thread my learning curve with new stuff is not so great:eek:

If I'm working with a FEL tractor I have the FEL above the fence line. Then all I have to worry about is catching the fence with the disk or BH and taking out a section...BTDT!!

Do you swap back and forth between 2 tractors.. a gear and an HST.. if so.. it may take a lil longer to get your feet trained... If using only the HST.. I imagine a couple weeks of use will get things straight..

I find that if you hit something with the FEL, it was not really meant to be there to begin with.

Has there been a discussion board with posts of "stupid tractor stories"? It would have to be hysterical to have us "honest" posters put out our "best" stories. I know I have a couple that would make you all laugh so hard your sides would hurt.
