I find that if you hit something with the FEL, it was not really meant to be there to begin with.

Has there been a discussion board with posts of "stupid tractor stories"? It would have to be hysterical to have us "honest" posters put out our "best" stories. I know I have a couple that would make you all laugh so hard your sides would hurt.

I've had a few 'brown alert' moments in the past.. and some uh.. encounters with the fenceline and 'clearance issues' while turning with a 3pt mower on the back!

That's when you make the executive decision to discard those shorts, vs washing them!

I find it easier to use the clutch as a brake in my HST. Stops the tractor right now, but for the most part my property is pretty flat and obviously that wouldn't work on a hill. FEL out if front? I have a daily reminder on a barn door to be careful about that. Like someone else mentioned, when working along fence lines I put the FEL all the way up and it's a non-issue since something else will hit it first, which of course I have done.

You are correct, but with a bush hog on the back and flat ground it's not much of an issue.

I got the same comments when I first posted my pic (in post #18)a few years ago. I'm thankful to say I sucessfully navigated the half acre flat garden area without, I say without rolling the tractor. Man I was lucky! The fence made it through it as well!

When I was a teenager I would plow our driveway with a Ford 3000 and a frame mounted snowplow. Add 14 year old, ice, seperate breaks, a spinning tractor and a snow bank that needs to be pushed back.

34 years later I still see the plow outline on the trim board of the porch when I check in on them every day.

I never liked that porch.
