BobRip,

What are you using for those 55lb weights? Can you post a picture? Are they available at TSC, for instance? I like the idea of being able to put one or two on the hitchpin as necessary, and then use neither most of the time.

I bought a couple of 55 lb weights from a local Kabota dealer. I made a bumper to support them. I have attached a picture. Not visible is a second bolt with the head cutoff through a hole in each weight. A hole in the bumper (a 2 X 8) is reinforced with a steel plate.

Attached is another picture which shows the bolts if you look closely.
The hitch pin goes through the steel plate and the wood of the bumper.

I don't see how adding 110 pounds on the rear is much worse that carrying 800 pounds on the front.

Because now you will try to carry 900 pound on the front. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Good point, but the relief valve will kick in. I guess we will all wear our the PT in different ways, some from turning the tires around and some from weights on the tires. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Even when not fully loaded the weight helps by keeping some traction on the rear. Carrying a 500 pound load limits my ability to back up a hill since the rear wheels start to slip. The extra weight prevents that. Maybe I should just buy a 1430.
Take care, but not all of it.

Hey Bob, I've seen you mention this twice. Why would you back up a hill? You should drive forward up a hill and back down a hill whenever possible...keep the load in the bucket on the high side and you want lose as much traction nor tip forward.

That said, there may be some reason that you HAVE to back up the hill in question...if so, just tell me to mind ma own bid'ness.... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

" Maybe I should just buy a 1430 "

I have the 1430 and I'm thinking if I add 300lbs. to the rear, I could lift 1500lbs with the loader. Sorry, I couldn't help it.

I did not know that. Thank you. Usually when I do this I am digging in a creek or swamp. If I drive down in the swamp, I probably will not get back out without the comealong. However there are places where you idea will help, so thanks again.

Oh, I see...you definitely wouldn't want to put the PT in the water just so you can drive forward up the hill... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The PT's give you a pretty good arsenal to help get yourself unstuck if you're only stuck in one spot. Namely, you can use the bucket to help claw yourself out. Or if moving sideways to a drier spot would help, you can pick up the front with the bucket, turn the steering, drop the front, then turn the steering the other direction, and repeat to crawl the front sideways. Unfortunately, most of this probably doesn't help much if the whole area is soupy... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Maybe it's time to mount a 12V DC winch to the back, eh?

Just curious... do the PT wheels have the four square-sided holes on the center hubs, out near the rim like most all 12" garden tractor wheels do? Those are intended for wheel weights or mounting dual wheels. If so, you can pick up wheel weights for garden tractors pretty cheaply, at times. I bought a pair of 35 lb weights from the clearance shelves at Home Depot not too long ago for $6 each.

A guy on eBay also sells dual wheel adapters that use these 4 holes:

If so, you could put two loaded wheels on each side of the rear, adding both width for stability and a LOT of weight at the same time. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Then again, you could totally destroy the wheel motors by doing so... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
