GC parking brake popped out! Damage pics.

Park brake? Who needs a park brake when you have a bucket and a backhoe?

Left it on a slope? Turn it off and drop all attachments to the ground before leaving.

Insurance is nothing more then sharing to pay someones indiscretions be it mine or yours.

Following the owner's manual would have prevented this.

Sorry for the 'tough love', but I really hate I will have to help pay for this.

I... If the machine is not repaired to "pre-damage specs" then I will not accept the machine back. If the insurance company will not replace the damaged parts with new like was in the estimate, which I think he will from our conversations, then there will be problems. I will file for a "depreciated value" claim if I feel I am getting the shaft.

When our house burned down, the insurance company was very good at stonewalling me, offering settlements which were about 50% of what they should have.

I ended up hiring a public adjustor (6-8% of your claim) and suddenly, like magic, they came up to a more reasonable offer. He helped me push back even more and they finally settled for the policy maximum.

Sadly, there is no honor in the insurance business. They try to settle claims for the lowest possible dollar value. If do not have a professional on your side you will probably not get the true coverage you have. A public adjustor is much less expensive than a lawyer and is "good enough" in most cases.

The insurance industry is run by lawyers, so why would you think they can be sleazily?

In fairness, it is a business. And, the stock companies are legally required to make as much as they can for their shareholders. They can sure be a bunch of weasels doing it sometimes.

This might be a an area that needs more attention, as my parking brake "popped" off yesturday. Thankfully, I was moving my kids bicycle out in front of my gravel pile and my tractor very slowly drifted into the pile. I'm certain that I properly latched it and was completely surpirsed, when it "popped"

I have never had an issue with it popping out, however I always push the pedal down and then pull on the lever at the same time to be sure it is engaged. Not sure why, just got in a habit of doing it since i got the tractor. Guess I will keep doing it !

I've been training tractor/forklift drivers at work for a few years now. One thing we stress is that the parking brake is not designed to stop the machine from rolling down a slope. If stopped on any slope, load lowered to the ground, and the wheels should be chocked. You would be surprised how common operator fatalities are from being crushed by their own machine. It's not a quick way to go, they usually have enough time to hear their ribs snap before they die.

That is exactly how I set mine....when it failed. DO NOT trust it!! Like was pointed out use chocks!! It is just a matter of time, it will fail. I will never trust mine again. If I need to stop on a grade with or without the FEL or BH attached, I will chock the wheels, even if it is just to jump off to move something out of my path.

I won't trust mine either, but I noticed something yesterday while I was fiddling around.
When you push the pedal down and move the lever to lock the brake, look at the hole in the floorboard...........you can see the locking arm, if it is straight up and down.......it is locked securely.

EDIT: I tried to duplicate the scenario, of mine popping out. I was succesful in the duplication.
The rounded eges of the locking mechanism can get caught making me think the brake is fully engaged, when it isn't. I believe that is what happened with mine.
