I appreciate your input and I realize nobody wants to give out money for anything, even if you have insurance. And I am sure they are going to try and save as much money as possible. I have both estimates, they were done today, ready.......$9019.28 and one was a few hundred more. That is about 1/2 of what the purchase price was! The frame is going to need replaced, they said the loader may have it in a bind and will not know for sure until the insurance co. gives the ok.

In my opinion... if it is over half of the price of new, then i hope the Ins. company just writes it off and you get a new unit. New parts are all fine and good, but if it was mine i would always wonder if it was indeed repaired correctly with new parts and properly. You paid good money for this amazing tractor, and should deserve to have a unit that is not plagued with possible issues down the road from a rebuild.

my 2 cents...

Wacky, certainly worth asking your insurance company what their percentage is for a write off, 50% is likely low though. Understanding GCs hold their value extremely well, the percentage used to make the decision is based on current value, not purchase price.

That said, it's surprising how quickly the $$$ add up when costing component parts. Just going from your previous posts Wacky, a new FEL / frame mounts, mowing deck / lift arms, hood and a possible frame replacement plus labour, it could add up pretty quick. At the end of the day, so long as all the replacement parts are new, it is a new tractor rebuilt at a dealer instead of on the assembly line. And the "mechanics" of the tractor weren't damaged??

Madhatter has a point, before signing as accepting it from them you'll want to run it through it's paces. I'd make sure the remainder of the 2 year warranty still applies to ensure continued warranty protection as well.

All points I'm sure you've already mulled over Wacky, hope it turns out well for you!

I am leaving today so this will be my last post till I return on Tuesday the 6th. I will be in touch with my dealer and insurance co. So until I return I won't be able to update. I again thank everyone for there ideas and input, I will have some time to check other dealers as I am on vacation to see if this is an issue. Never the less, I will NEVER trust the brake again! I was told if they have to order a frame, it may have to come from Japan, and may take months to get:mad:!!! I hope that when it is repaired it will be like new again, we will have to wait and see. You all enjoy the 4TH:thumbsup:!!

Usually, a car needs to be 75-80% of value, to be a total loss. That figure is used so that when hidden damage, and rental costs, are added, it will usually not exceed 100% of the value. It's never about what is right. The customer does always have the option of taking the hit, and paying the difference to replace the vehicle.

I have had customers get in serious wrecks on the way home with a new car, they still get fixed. I have also seen repair jobs go over 100% of value, when an insurance co. decides to try and save a few bucks, rather than total it out.

They are apparently replacing everything with new parts, rather than repairing anything. If the insurance co. agreed to that, they would already be making a concession they don't normally make on cars.

If they repairs are done properly, (the customer being very involved in the process, can help make sure they do), there should be no "issues".

My 231s will pull against a fully set parking brake without you even knowing it.
I've had the dealer give it his blessing and it still won't hold. When I leave the machine the engine is off and both gear levers are engaged.
45 hp just overwhelms the brake.

Just got back from vacation. Boy was that short. Now I dread going back to work with 95 degree heat in a building with hardly any air movement. Anyhow, I called the claim rep last friday, and he is going to be out to look at the machine any day now. Like was thought, no way to total, worth too much money. I do have a $500 deductable so will have to do that when the job is done. I am anxiously waiting to hear about how long to get it back!! As soon as he gives the okay the dealer should call he said.

If you can afford it, you could trade it in now, and have a new one tomorrow.

I figure if the dealer replaces everything like they intend to, everything damaged is beyond repair, it really should be like a new one. I will just wait and see. It still may total if there is a supplement when he goes to look at it. On the plus side, I will have all the old damaged stuff for spare parts:).

Did you ask the ins. co. about a rental while yours is being repaired? Pretty common with auto insurance...wouldn't hurt to ask. I'm with Ray...trade it. You never get a severely damaged vehicle back to new...hard to find someone who will be that meticulous about the repair of something that doesn't belong to them. Plus, looking at the pictures, that was an extremely hard hit...never know what may show up later (after the warranty expires).

I didn't ask yet. Waiting for him to look at the machine himself. If the machine is not repaired to "pre-damage specs" then I will not accept the machine back. If the insurance company will not replace the damaged parts with new like was in the estimate, which I think he will from our conversations, then there will be problems. I will file for a "depreciated value" claim if I feel I am getting the shaft.
