GC1710 vs GC1720

I think it has been like this from the go, at first I think I was just getting use to it and I kept the tractor on level ground....as I became more use to it I began using it in more hilly areas of my property.....I would think this thing in low range, with the 4 wheel drive on and the engine @ peek HP 3000rpms and without the hoe on should be able of going up (forward or backward) a hill steeper than anyone would ever want to try. The unit did seem to get worse after it was used for awhile and the fluid became hot. I can also hear the hydro whining when its struggling. I hope to find out something today.

So the plot thickens...You say in low gear, at WOT, no back hoe, its struggling? My experience has been that my GC2400 will either lose tractor or flip over backward before it runs out of power in low gear.

System relief may need to be adjusted

System relief may need to be adjusted

Mine needs to be adjusted...so I don't stain my pants? Or Stlmatt's needs to be adjusted so his will climb hills? haha

Could be the hydro whine he reports is actually the relief valve, not hydro whine?

Well I got a call from the deal yesterday, they said they tested the pressures and everything came back ok....so they are thinking it was a bad relief valve (cartridge) they installed a new one and said the unit seems fine....Im going to pick it up tomorrow so maybe this weekend (if it ever stops raining here) ill get to put it to the test.

Thanks: Stlmatt

Stlmatt . . just a thought or two.

As I recall you noticed the problem going up a hill or when you were pulling something. So :

1. At your dealer . . Before you haul the unit away . . Do they have any hills near there to test on?

2. If no hills . . certainly they must have some implement sitting around that you could hook up to and drag it around a bit.

Point ???? Why not give it a test before you leave the dealer's location ?

Just a way to save you some time :

So Stlmatt . . Did that relief valve changeout fix the problems of hill climbing power and pulling power ?

Greetings Stlmatt,

We haven't heard back from you. You had encountered a problem with your new Massey and taken it to the dealer . . and you were going to pick It up and test it . . but not a word since then.

Well I picked up the unit and it seemed better.....but I have to say Im not that impressed with the unit, its going back to the dealer as I feel it doesn't have the pulling power it should. In low gear and full engine speed and 4x4 on it will not climb some hills with the backhoe on. With the hoe off it does better...but still seems under powered. The loader and backhoe seem ok but then again I don't really have anyway to compare them. The unit also has a hydro leak from the cover that goes around the rear PTO and has the site glass in it.....Im waiting the dealer to come get it when they slow down as I am still using the machine. More to post when I know more.....im thinking maybe I should have bought the JD as atleast they have a decent service centers.
