GC1710 vs GC1720

Starting January of 14 the gc series and the new 1700 series compacts went to the 5 year power train warranty. It's based off of retail date not date of manufacture. Tso's tractor didn't qualify because it was a 1600 series. Any 1500 series sold would also not qualify. Just the 3-year on those

+1 on that. My 1529 that I bought in May 2014 has the three year warranty. However, it is tier three and saved about 20% over the 1700 series.

I just got up my new 2015 GC1720 last week, I got the unit with the DL95 loader and CB65 backhoe. It been raining here since I've got it but I did get to play some with it. I made some brackets that bolt on to the ROPS mounting plate for a tool box on each side.....the boxes stay in place with heavy duty Velcro, works great. I also installed a piranha tooth bar and I just found out they offer a factory mech.thumb for the hoe ($400.00) I paid 18,000 delivered with the back tires liquid filled...I also got a 10" and 12" bucket for the hoe (the 10" was free since it came with unit) as I ordered it with a 12" but they let me keep the 10:) so far the unit seems very well made, I like how easy the engine compartment is accessed and the all the filters seem easy to get to. I will say it feels like I sit up higher (as compared to JD 1 series) and the unit does seem iffy on a any side hill but, this is my first tractor so maybe I just need some time in the seat......I'm use to my S185 bobcat skidsteer, and this is nothing like that...LOL I opted for the 1720 vs 1710 as there was only about 1200.00 difference in price, from what I know you get, more power+2.5hp, a little more flow 4.6 vs 4.3gpm, a rear work light, metal light guards on the ROPS, nicer curved hydro pedals....that's about it. I am going to add some bro-tek rear wheel spacers, I just haven't decided if I want the 2" or 3" as I do have some hilly areas.

Thanks STLMatt

Stlmatt,

Now that you have your new unit . . I'd be very interested in your viewpoints (or other users who actually have some of these same items) . . and comments on your purchase decisions of :

A. The dl95 loader you got instead of the dl100

B. The cb65 backhoe you chose instead of the cb05

C. The gc1720 instead of gc1710

D. The need for spacers

E. 10 inch bucket and 12 inch bucket

In each case you chose one over the other and now you are seeing the results of thise decisions . . was each a good one and why.

Also . . . did you include a mmm deck in your purchase?

Well, I must say I looked at the Kubota BX25D and the JD 1 Series before making my purchase. I liked the JD but my dealer was several 1000's higher than what I could buy the Massey for....plus I like RED over Green. The Kubota seemed cheap as compared to the Massey OR JD
Anyway here's why I wanted the DL95 and CB65

DL95 vs DL100 More lifting power on the DL95 and Hidden hydro lines inside the boom, lower cross bar for better headlight use.

CB65 vs CB05 More digging force (1900 vs 2400), hidden lines inside the boom/dipperstick, better larger stabilizer pads, OEM thumb option. BOOM Float is nice and not available on other brands

I didn't opt for the MMM, but I could add later.....the new mower deck is also a drive over.

The 10" Massey bucket seems about as big as the 12" in other brands (Kubota) I haven't received my 12" bucket yet and I'm also still waiting on the thumb.

The TLB units seems like they have a high center of gravity.....im not sure if its the seat that makes it feel that way as I believe the seat height is higher on the TLB units.

I live on a hilly area and I think the 2" rear spacers might add some protection from rollover and make the machine feel some surefooted on side hills.......just my thought and for $200 I'm willing to try them.

I only have about 20 hours on the new 1720 so as I use it more and get all the accessories installed I will post more about it.

Thanks: Stlmatt

Very nice resonse stlmatt, please return with more input . . both the good and not so good issues :) Thinking and researching are good but seat time after the research . . is invaluable reasoning.

I plan to do a similar thing after I've made my decisions. :)

So Stlmatt . . its been a month since your early impressions of your new Massey.

Your evaluation . . while only initial in timeframe April 14 . . . Was very thorough about why you chose specific items (dl95 loader vs. dl100 etc..)

So by now I imagine you've put some hours on it. How are your impressions now and what did you do right and would you change anyrhing?

Well Yes I currently have 35 hours on the machine......the bad news it going in for service as I am having an issue with the drive train.....the tractor doesn't seem to have any pulling power, fine on flat ground but struggles going up any hill:-(
Other than that....the loader and backhoe seem to work great, the motor is smooth and I must say fairly quite....I did install the 2" Brotech rear wheel spacers and that seemed to really make the unit a lot more stable on any side incline, and I also installed factory thumb for the hoe. I will report back when I know what the issue is with the drive....she is going in tomorrow so I should know next week.

Are you trying that in high range? High range HST and hills don't usually mesh

Just a thought Stlmatt . . I've read where if the hydrostatic drive is low on fluid it can explain your issue. But to furthet that situation . . You have about 35 hours on it.

Ive read in numeroys past threads on the Kubota side where it they xome fromthe factory with partial fluids and the dealer fills them further before delivery. Even then . . Working tge inirial fluids thru the system can then expise cavities empty of fluid (like what happens with vehicle transmission flushes). So even if the dealer did fillit full . . . It could have worked the air out now and heavy draw is met with less than full hydro fluids. And of course if the dealer forgot or didn't get it as full as it should . . Fluid still nit at full volume needed . . Thus pulling or hills is less powered.

Numerous kubota users posted about this. Worth a shot at least.

Thanks for the advice, I checked the fluid level and based on the sight glass window its FULL, I really only use the machine in low gear.....and I understand with the hoe on that it might struggle on some steep grades....with that being said My Simplicity riding mower goes up and down the same hill with no issues at all. I delivered it back to the deal Saturday so Im hoping to find something out today. I will post more when I what's up.

Thanks: Stlmatt

I'll be interested to hear if they find anything....Did the machine always have the issue? You reported at 20 hours, then at 35 hours, was there a change in performance inbetween?

I know for me, it took a while to get it through my thick skull that the hydro pedal is not like the gas pedal in my car. Pushing it harder when the tractor starts to bog down actually make the problem worse. That being said, when I mow, at 2600 RPM, with the 60" mower and my PTO grass catcher sucking power, I will only lose 2-300 RPM and slow down a bit going up the moderate slope in my yard when in high gear. Trying the same slope, not mowing, at just above idle (1500-1600 rpm), in high gear, it will stall (or just about) if you don't let off the pedal, or increase the throttle.
