A radio controlled helicopter is classified as a toy and should not be compared to a real helicopter, my 14 year old has toy helicopters so this comparison makes no sense at all.
Lets just agree to disagree here.

Tell that to the fellows in the local R/C club. They insist an R/C aircraft is in every way a real aircraft. They take strong exception when anyone tries to say otherwise. They only differentiate by scale, and full size aircraft.

An R22 is a real helicopter, (barley). Interestingly, my hourly cost to fly the full size R22, is about 50% lower than my R/C helicopter.

Interesting comparison, and just like parts for the 2300's I'm assuming are priced about the same as for a full size tractor, those pitch links / hubs and blades aren't cheap for the RC helicopter either are they? :D

Got us comin' and goin'.

Flying full sized aircraft, I never expect to have accidents. But with R/C gear, it is a matter of when, and where.

With something minor like a botched landing, as the helicopter flips back and forth on the ground, while watching the carnage, you can count by a number, usually between 20 and 50, which varies for your particular model. As in; $50, $100, $150, $200, $250, $300. This seems to be a remarkably accurate way to tally up the damages.

Bigger incidents, are usually much simpler to tally.

Sorry, didn't mean to come across angry-we are all entitled to our opinions. I grew up a farmer and we used 2 cylinder gas engine John Deer tractors with a live PTO so I know what I'm talking about. I also have a father who is an expert on industrial equipment and it is his opinions and expertise that I value not yours :) No one here has laughed at me yet and I don't expect them to.

A better comparison would be a Robinson 22 two seater compared to a Bell 430, big difference in size but they are helicopters never the less.

Lets just agree to disagree here.

Ok I had to weight in on this one. I have 1000 combats hours in CH-47 A, B, C, models and another 1500 or so in others as well as fixed wing. The major difference between my radio controlled helicopters and the others is that I never got hurt crashing the RC, but durn when you get shot up and crash a CH-47 it hurts and costs just a bit more.

"I never got hurt crashing the RC"
Yeah? What about your pride??? :D

I get occasional National Guard traffic, overhead. Usually UH-1's but now and then some CH-47's go over. I always enjoy the shaking my rafters get.

I understand they are wonderfully stable to fliers. The only model 47 I have time in, is the Bell.

I still have not used the diff lock, I really should try it out soon, :D. KC

I forgot that I posted this when the diff went out since it has been so long ago.

I gave up my tractor for the summer to my dealer but he kept me in loaners during that time so I won't complain.

I used a JD 855 and a Kubota B Series (can't remember which one). At the risk of starting a comparison discussion I will say that, even though I liked the larger frame, I would not want to give up my tractor for either one of these (especially the Kubota).

So now the bottom line: even with labor discounted the damage was $1580.

I got it back just in time to blow the snow off the driveway.

Maybe I am just being too rough on this thing.

man...that could add up quick if it is due to your use and not a fluke. What do you believe caused it? If it is your taking it to extreme, could you let us know what that may be? I'm sure there are others that would like to avoid this as well. I realize it's probably subjective....thanks for the follow up!

Once something breaks off inside a differential, it does not take long for almost everything in there, to get trashed. :(
